Only the Ranking is Broken

I went through 3 or 4 games were I consistently averaged about 20 kills, about 10 assists, and less than 10 deaths. This would bring my team so close to victory, but when we are almost winning, they decide to bum rush the enemy. Note that each one of my teammates has almost 15 deaths, and at least 2 of each of their kills was me assisting them so that they wouldn’t die.

Instead, my ranking goes down by almost -40. And when I finally get a good team and win, I only go up by +7. I end up being stuck in my rank with a KDA of ten because I attempt to teamwork but my teammates don’t understand teamwork. Not to mention 50%+ accuracy. Yet, the guy with a -2.5 KDA and a 30% accuracy with an Assault rifle has Onyx rank.

Ranking system is broken, and punishes good players (who end up on bad teams) and allows noobs to get carried. Ranking should be based more heavily on player skill (K/D/A) and not on wins.

I definitely agree it could use some tweaking.

Ranking system makes no sense. I started 15 straight wins so I was at 15/15 with a 10.5 KDA, Onyx I “that’s fine” I go against others that are like 6/12 with a 0.7 KDA and they are the same rank? These are the people it keeps putting on my team. I have no idea how those numbers got that person to that level but really…

I understand a ranking system generally takes 2-3 full weeks to really level out but the initial values are comical.

Yeah it’s kind of annoying. IMO it should be linked to your K/D per game.

Why? Well for the simple fact that you give more kills to your team then to the enemy. It’s not fair when you get on an idiot team that doesn’t fight smart. They may come in first on the team due to getting the most kills, but they also gave the other team a crap ton of kills.

That’s just an example, anyone who says K/D doesn’t matter in team games is an idiot.

I would propose this change to the ranking:

If you are on the losing team, but have very good stats: a positive K/D, good amount of assists and overall performed well, you should lose no rank. When you happen to do exceptionally well. you gain maybe a small amount of rank, such as +10. Performing “well” should also be based on how well you did in comparison to your team. If you entire team did well, with a positive K/D and assists, but simply lost because the other team was better, than you would lose rank. However you would lose rank based on how much worse your team did compared to the other team. For example, if your whole team did well and you lost by 1 point, then your ranking wouldn’t go down that much, maybe at most -5.

If you are on the winning team, but have a horrible K/D, and overall performed poorly, you would gain a very small amount of rank. However, if you are on the winning team and performed exceptionally well, you would gain bonus rank. Of course, this is in the case where there are huge differences in what stats the team members have. If the whole team performs well, then there wouldn’t be bonuses or minuses to rank gain; players would gain rank normally based on how well they did against the other team.

Of course there is more I could think of, and it is more complicated than the system we have now, but it would gauge player skill better. Right now, rank based off of win/loss sounds like a system created out of laziness. But this is a beta, so I hope that Bungie improves on this.
