So halo 5s beta was amazing.
I scored it 9/10
But since then, its gone down hill drastically, it hasn’t done anything that has surpassed the level of what was revealed in the beta. I assumed the more we got to see the better the game would get, but it’s been anything BUT that. The game seems like it’s still going to be ok however there’s been some issues post beta that has really turned people off.
So remember, the beta was a 9/10. But since then there’s been some new developments that have either, ruined the great beta to some degree and on top of that there hasn’t been anything amazing released since the beta.
I’ve collected a list of negatives from places like youtube videos and comments and forums etc and jotted down a list of negatives that I think are valid arguments.
Let’s have an honest discussion about these few issues that seem to be getting on a lot of people’s nerves.
- Warzone -
• Dead zones on maps, not enough action too much of the time
• The demo seems to be the same old thing every game, land in pelican, wait for base to open up so you can exit, then once your out everyone follows each other over to the right to fight an elite standing in the tower and then everyone follows each other over to the next room where there’s some promethiens waiting to be killed and then everyone follows everyone to the next place where there is another alien waiting to be killed. The game seems too on rails and looks boring.
The IDEA of the mode seems GREAT in your imagination, with all it has to offer, but it doesn’t play well. As much as ppl want it to and are telling them selves that it does, everyone knows it doesn’t. It doesn’t reach expectation.
• No One has been impressed with the Warzone demos level design from an art stand point. People are getting sick of the plasticky white walls with soft smooth perfect round edges that look so neat and perfect and flawless and brand new. We had it all through halo 4 with maps like Skyline, Land fall, harvest, just to name a few. And now it’s been the same with all the human styled mos for halo 5 too such as Empire, Eden, fathom, Warzone etc. People want some “not so perfect, Not so neat, not so brand new” styled designs on human maps. Ppl are wanting a little bit more grit like on old halos. 343s map designer comes across as a real Neat freak with OCD about neatness and cleanness. - Arena/Warzone:
There have been a massive cry out all over the web about the implementation of “minty green glowing outlines around placed & dropped weapons”
Ppl are saying that, not only does this make the guns and grenades look fake, there for taking you OUT of the experience and making he game more of a fake digital experience, but it also takes away from the increased skill gap that the beta had and that all other halos had. For example, ppl are saying that, no longer will a player who takes the time to get good at halo and learn the weapon spawn areas have an advantage over a kid who plays final fantasy all day and only plays halo once in a blue moon. The majority opinion is that 343 can’t help them selves but to listen to the newer generation of halo players who don’t like Competetive games, so they have listened to the feedback from these younger generations and as a result have gone back to their halo 4 roots where it was all about making the game as easy as possible. In halo 4 they made the auto aim assist really high, in halo 5 they have placed big green outlines around all the placed and dropped weapons so that in experienced players who don’t play halo often are not penalised for not putting in effort. In addition to these complaints, people also said that some times two or 3 players will die in the same area and there will be a big cluster of ARs and grenades on the floor over lapping each other with green outlines around them making the game look cheep and user friendly for the inexperienced player or for the player who doesn’t really play halo much. It cators to these ppl while penalising players who like to have a skill gap between them selves and players who don’t play halo often. - Sound: Halo5 sound design lacks.
Halo 1 - Reach had amazing sound.
In particular, Ambient sound during multiplayer. When on a map, if it was snowing or whatever, you could hear the sound of the environment. You felt like you were IN THE GAME. 343 have failed to achieve that.
On top of that, weapon sounds for halo4 have changed for the worse.
BR, Carbine, Sword, SAW, Needler. All sound like toys. - Art direction:
So it was mentioned about all the perfect neatly shaped buildings and structures on human maps, white plasticky walls with rounded edges etc. But I noticed a very interesting topic about how 343 fails to use lighting and shadows correctly where as Bungie were excellent and the team that made H2As remastered maps were the best in terms of lighting vs shadows.
at first I didn’t understand it, but then a few examples were shown to me and it became abundantly clear that 343 are failing hard when it comes to lighting vs shadows.
It was was explained to me by a graphical artist that “The Contrast” levels in halo4 and halo5 are cranked up too high. (If you don’t know what contrast is, go to your TV and look for the setting called contrast and turn it all the way up and all the way down and u will see what it is)
I was shown an example of how 343s main halo art teams have no idea how to create balanced light.
They say that 343 cranks the contrast light UP too high in their games and makes the games too bright creating a more cartoony look and less realism which makes u feel more like your watching a cartoon instead of actually being IN the game.
it was described as looking like 343 maps always look like there is 2 suns in the sky and always has a warm happy happy cartoonish feel to the game and that’s not what halo has ever felt like and isn’t supposed to feel like. It’s not supposed to be a happy feel, it’s supposed to be A beautiful spectacle caught up in the misery of war.
Below are the examples I was given.
Notice how there is almost a white glow over the map, like a white filter almost making that map look super bright, like there’s 2 suns in the sky almost. The same thing happens on night time maps or cold maps that are supposed to be snowy or cold and misserable, they feel warm and happy and not dark even in the shadows. But on day time maps it feels like it’s 10 times worse.

Now look at the lighting used in the next link. Notice how when you are in the shade you feel cold, when u step into the light you warm up. There is no white bright filter over the map. The map looks and feels real. And is not cartoonish. And the art is just WAY MORE SPECTACULAR !
(P.S - Notice the ambient sounds, the world sound that the map has & how it makes u feel like ur IN the game)
But for this topic, be sure to notice the subject at hand, about how when your in the dark spots, your actually in the dark spots! Where as in halo 4 & 5 there are no true dark spots they’re light grey and don’t feel like real shade.
See below for the way halo is supposed to look And the compare it to how Warzone looks in the link you just viewed in example 1.
