I hope to god this is not true.
I pulled this from the link below. It’s mainly talks about Spartan Ops.

In all honesty, that wouldn’t surprise me since the Spartan Ops missions don’t ship with the game. Also if its free for people who buy the game new, that pass can’t be too expensive… Im just glad to see that Spartan Ops will remain free!
It would make sense to me since this is more than just mulitplayer, this is more along the line of co-op campaign, but not the single player campaign based on what was released today about it. Since each week will offer new missions and a new cutscene, I can see them having a season pass setup to keep that feature a premium to new copies.
I hope this is not true. I have had bad experiences with online passes, a lot of games I’ve redeemed the pass when I got the game new and it doesn’t work and then it says the code is invalid and so on. But if Halo, a game where you’re supposed to be able to just jump on and buy it used or whatever you like, has an online pass… It won’t be bad for me but just changes the game, I don’t know how to explain it…
Why would that be such a bad thing? Game stores often encourage players to buy used games over new ones, to the point where it seriously undercuts the profit of the developer.

Ive never had a problem with online passes.

I bought Halo CE preowned because hated shooter games on consoles up till then but liked the look of it. Loved it bought everyone of them since all because of that pre owend game i bought. Even went and bought the limited editon halo xbox whan halo 3 came out all because of a pre owned game i think the devolpers have more than made there money out of me since.
Online passes are more of a detriment than they are a good thing. Look at EA and their online pass spree. Heck, you need online passes to play single player games (Kingdoms of Amalur)! It’s ridiculous. Online passes aren’t needed, just incentives to buy the game new.

> wow that sucks
You need gold to play multiplayer but yet you can still play it offline.
so you think I can play SO offline with out gold ?
if I can that would be great because if not the only thing I can do is campaign and that wont last long
I’m not against it, but I thought that 343i said something about spartan ops not requiring xbl until an expansion was released. If you need an online pass for matchmaking then I’m sure that you’ll still be saving money by buying the game used, unless you game a used copy of the game around the initial release.
Hmm. Now i really really REALLY dont like online passes and i think they are reprehensible (in fact i dont buy EA games anymore and have been waiting for arkham city GOTY due its its pass BS), but there are a few things which, if satisfied, would sort of make this OK.
The spops episodes are NOT ON THE DISC. They must be sold to us after the fact and not sold on the disc once, and then again via a pass to a used buyer.
That the rest of the game, being separate from spops, remains unaffected by any passes, that includes multiplayer. A game has value to me according to not only its entertainment value but also its resale value, which online passes usually take a big chunk out of. (not that im likely to resell H4 but still). Resale value also enables me to buy even more new games than i could otherwise, take note industry suits.
What im saying is if they want to make SPOPS an extra downloadable episodic content mode only for people who buy new, but buying used will still get you a full Halo game, then i can live with it I suppose.
But i still find it strange because mandatory passes and codes only ever inconvenience the end user in return for hopefully keeping more sales new, and i dont think Halo 4 will have trouble drumming up sales, passcodes or not.
