Let me preface this by saying I’m not complaining, I’m calling for an important change to the way Halo 5 works. I really like this game and that’s why I am speaking out.
In case you didn’t know, Halo 5’s custom games and forge mode both require an internet connection just to play. But on top of a connection requirement, you also need xbox live gold. This needs to be changed immediately. The only online-only feature that Halo should ever have is matchmaking. Everything else needs to be playable offline and online.
When Halo 5’s servers are put to rest, I would still like to enjoy these multiplayer maps and the forge mode. But as it stands right now, I will not be able to.
Before anyone asks, yes, I do play customs alone. I enjoy exploring the beautiful maps this game has. And yes, I do play forge alone because that’s what I like to do. And I want to do those activities without having to be connected to some server when I don’t need to be.
Just give me the option to connect to a server or stay disconnected.
I don’t expect to make a difference, and I know 343 industries pays little to no attention to their own website. But I do hope to raise awareness about this issue and maybe the community can come together and make a difference for the better. I know I do not speak for this community but I believe this is something we can all support.
*edit: changed title to better accommodate my post.
*edit 2: For those of us in the Halo Community Feedback Program, please spread this message on the next feedback survey. 343 needs to know that we want offline features.
Do not bump threads.
I know bumping is against forum rules but the community needs to see this.
But don’t you know that if you’re not online you can’t prove you’re not a dirty, dirty pirate? It’s the only way to be sure.
I don’t even use forge and I think it’s ridiculous that we have to be online/have gold if we’re just building maps on our own.

I’m assuming you’re joking, but in the event you’re not:
No other Halo title has required any sort of connection for customs or forge.

I will say I think that so long as custom games are online only then there’s no point in making forge offline. I suppose it’d be nice to work on forge maps whenever the servers are down for later online play, but other than in that instance there’s no point in making maps that you then can’t play on until you get gold.

Which is exactly why I want this to be changed. Why 343 thought online only was a wise choice is beyond my comprehension.

Thank you.
Man, this was a concern I had before Forge was even released. People pooped on me in the forums and finally people agree with me.

I’ve been with you this entire time. We, as a community, need to be more vocal about this.
Here’s one explanation why this is the case:
Microsoft wants to make as much money from Xbox as possible, and in order to do that they decided to take their most popular exclusive and turn it into online only to get more people to buy Xbox LIVE subscriptions just to play Halo 5. This can also be proven by the microtransactions and no split screen.
This idea will always be denied, but it’s all for max profits.
OR 343i is dumb.
If halo 6 is the same way I’m just not going to buy it. I knew forge would be online only, 343 can’t give us something without taking something away.

3 steps forward, 4 steps back. 3 more steps back for removing features for money.

Maybe it’s both. The inclusion of dedicated servers is not an excuse to take away offline features that have been in every single Halo title beside Halo 5.
Don’t Halo 5 lack splitscreen ? Custom games alone would be useless beside Forge purposes.

Why is that? Back in the Halo 2 days, I did not have xbox live. So I would explore the maps all by myself. I would read the lore on the maps and I’ve been doing that ever since. I still do it to this day and I personally would be pretty upset if I can’t do that. It’s my thing. I’d fall asleep on the beaches of Last Resort. I would do my homework as my character sat idle looking up at the Halo ring on sidewinder. I’d watch the distant battles over Reach on condemned for hours on end. You may not care for the feature like I do but just understand that some of us yearn for it.

It’s not useless, it’s a feature you paid for; Not only that a feature that has never used Online Servers before in the first place.
The fact that it uses servers now is still kinda dumb. When we complained about dedicated servers, this isn’t what we meant.
You guys are acting like they CHOSE to do online only. Custom games requires a dedicated server to work. Why do you think you are able to have so many things in forge? The Xbox one alone can’t run it all. Also why there is no LAN.
Not defending 343 here, they could’ve done a better job with optimizing their engine, but I’m guessing this is what was needed for 60fps, you can blame the dickheads at Microsoft who designed the Xbox One specs.

They did choose to do Online Only…
We wanted Servers in Matchmaking, not Custom Games or Forge. Forge is something people do alone normally…
