(I made this post a while back in another thread and I felt that it wasn’t that relevant to the topic, so I’m posting it here as its own beast.)
I’m honestly getting sick of the multiplayer side of things. I used to like playing online a lot but it has worn out on me. I realized pretty recently that the quieter side of multiplayer - that is - exploring maps, seeing if I can escape them, taking in the sights, sounds and overall experience, and of course forging(!) is much more enjoyable. I don’t know… I just feel like the online competitive side of Halo and ANY game for that matter is just a poisonous place to be, in my opinion of course. The quiet side has pretty much been the Halo multiplayer experience for me from CE to midway through Reach when I didn’t have Xbox Live (yes, nearly ten years). I feel more at home with it, kind of like revisiting a childhood home or playground. Now I find that I mainly play local custom games with friends, with the odd online match here and there. The Halo 5 Beta was an exception, but even that I had to stop playing midway through its course because I found myself feeling unsatisfied after each match, and frankly quite discontent, despite winning or losing (no I don’t have anger problems). I ultimately think that if I’m going to experience multiplayer mayhem, I’d like it to be in customs with people I can talk to next to me, and not in the virtual battlefield.
How about you guys? Do you have any similar feelings about multiplayer? Post away!
I was actually surprised how much I enjoyed the beta. I just couldn’t stop playing the damn thing. But I get what you mean
I’ve only been playing online multiplayer games for … well, off and on since about 2004/5. And I’ve been playing video games since 1989. So most of my gaming experiences were alone or with people sitting next to me. Alone just getting lost exploring the worlds in games, or me and my nerdy friends eating leftover pizza, peeking at each other’s screens, etc.
For me, that was what gaming was all about. But I’m older now and married and I don’t even talk to any of my old friends. QQ, right? lol. So I do play online a lot, but I probably split it 50/50 with campaign play.
yeah i know it was a bit stale but it was very bare bones sandbox wise no btb and objectives don’t feel as good without a mass range of vehicles plus it was a cookie cutter slice of the weapons but the competitive edge was there. it was just a beta though almost a year from launch i just hope their is a bigger array of things to use.
I loved playing halo 5 beta buy the reason I did was because most of my friend I been playing with for over 10 years came and played it. Rarely do they play halo anymore. If I want to play with them I got to go play cod or battle field. If I’m playing mcc it solo style with multi-player on that. Here the 2 biggest problem I have with multi-player fps game now days.

Party chat has ruined team work. People do not chat in game anymore. Rarely do I find other talking player when I’m soloing. Almost everyone in Chat talking to friends.

Over 75% of gamer now think they are professional gamers. If you don’t play exactly like them they throw little fits. When I started playing online game 13 years ago rarely was that a problem. Gaming were about having fun not about acting like professional gamers.

Peoples attitudes online has done far more damage to team work than party chat, and is why people use party chat
to me the beta felt like a fresh breeze of air
your expression sounds more like a personal concern.

I can’t disagree with that.
I miss the days when multiplayer was an added feature, not the main focus of a game. I’m sick of every game now having to revolve around its multiplayer, especially when it comes to Halo. Games need to start putting their story modes first and multiplayer second. Yes, multiplayer is what adds replayability and longevity to a game, but the story should be what pulls you in in the first place.
I have a good friend who has played CE and a little of 2, but doesn’t remember anything from them. Never played 3 or 4, or even finished 2. He doesn’t know Master Chief’s name and he thinks he’s a robot. He refuses to play MCC because he “doesn’t want to play the same games over and over again for the rest of his life” (yes, I know, it doesn’t make sense, but that is literally the only quasi-reason I can get out of him). He wants to get Halo 5 because the multiplayer looks fun. That to me is just downright disgusting.
