Okay, what happened to ranked matchmaking. This is like crappy “customs” but with randoms wtf.
Exactly no leaderboards, no skilled true skill matchmaking and no leveling system all removed so upset about this.
The game itself plays so good too bit without multiplayer its a bit pointless especially longterm.
It is early access, not everything is ready yet I don’t think.
I am hoping that is the case I really do otherwise there is no online mode apart from custom games with randoms.
This absolutely needs to be fixed to the old method. It was much more efficient at putting you into games quickly with people, mainly because there’s always going to be one player in the lobby that doesn’t ready up or clicks abort when the game is starting.

hopefully i don’t encounter those players and hopefully there’s less rushers and resource stealers
People seem to be forgetting this is early access. The game isn’t technically out until february. That is when we can complain.
Better to complain to get it fixed for release

The usual poor show from 343 as always.
For those commenting that its Early Access, the blog post on the homepage says:
In addition to the great campaign and multiplayer modes fans will remember, Halo Wars:Definitive Edition also features a new multiplayer session browser in place of the legacy matchmaking system. This allows players to create and join their favorite multiplayer, skirmish, or co-op campaign games quickly and easily on their preferred platform.
I read that to say the session browser is their new proposed way of doing online games, and there is no indication that an actual matchmaking system will be a thing. 
Saying early acess is a poor excuse. I hope they add in the stuff people want later, closer to the release of halo wars 2. Its early access, not a beta that we paid for.
Theres not going to be any competitiveness in the game due to no ranks, matchmaking system or leaderboards. Like why?? I might actually cancel my preorder

As it stands, there will be no “legacy matchmaking”. We can only hope that they will notice our discontent and add it back in. They may be giving the Definitive Edition less functionality in order to force us to play HW2… but that won’t fly with me, I have low hopes for HW2 as it is, not just because the beta was garbage, but mainly because I feel they over complicated the game, not to mention the advantages players on PC will have using quick access to custom unit group control using the Alt and Ctrl methods; only way that would be acceptable to me would be to have the ability to disable cross platform matchmaking.
As it stands right now, I am canceling my preorder. I urge others, that feel similarly, to cancel as well - if not just to send the message of disapproval and hope that they react by making desirable changes.

Saying that because the game is in Early Access as the reason is absurd. If anything the custom matchmaking would be the thing added later and what was already there the Ranking, Matchmaking, Leaderboards should of been in since this is just a prettier version of the original game. The fact that they changed the on-line component is making me believe that Matchmaking, Trueskill, Ranking and Leaderboards WILL NOT be added to the game and due to that the game will die, which is probably what they want and why they did because Halo Wars 2.
Now “IF” they don’t add this to the game, my next question for the Dev team is will HW2 have Rankings, Matchmaking, Leaderboards etc? Because if that does not have it also, I am out. Halo Wars 2 has been my most wanted sequel to date and when they announced this, I was over joyed that that were giving the game another shot, but with the stripping of the main and best online portion of the OG in the Definitive Edition makes me worry for Halo Wars 2.
Speaking of Definitive Edition, how you they honestly call this a Definitive Edition when they ripped out the most important aspect of a RTS which was the Ranking, Leaderboards etc? It should of been called the Watered Down Edition if anything.
Please 343i, please fix this and add it back in and ensure that HW2 has it. I am fine with having Customs as well, but since the dev is Creative Assembly, they know all too well that Rankings, Leaderboards and Matchmaking are an important part of a RTS.

It is very very very likely that they will have all those features in HW2, however it is still likely IMO to not live up to the quality of the original, as I said (in less words), it was the simplicity of gameplay and unambiguous maps, bases, units, powers, rock-paper-scissors mechanic, etc. that made the original HW so great. The complexity they added, such as dual resources and power trees makes me think that HW2 will be much less fun.
That aside, chances are super low that they will undo the “slap in the face” that was removing the legacy matchmaking from the DE, but I hope they do. That would make me repurchase both HW2 and the DE, but as it stands, I have given up on them completely… and being that I was such a huge fan of the original, still playing it to this day, that should speak volumes…
