I disagree. I think this is them respecting the foundation Bungie laid with the concept of Rampancy, and taking that to it’s logical conclusion. They’re respecting already established lore, and that’s a helluva lot more than I can say for Bungie.
About Cortana specifically though, I suspect at least part of the story will revolve around her being or becoming Metastable, and that would be really interesting if it actually happens.

Also I would suggest putting spoiler tags before discussing rumors this close to release, with copies already leaking into the wild, and with the press getting their hands on it, the risk that rumors are spoilers are high, and getting higher every day.

I don’t know about her being evil, but I definitely think that she is going to continue to have a fairly large impact on the story throughout the remaining Halo’s, whether it be emotionally on Chief or some other physical situations.

Don’t be assuming things, good or bad, about Cortana just yet. We have no hints about her that she’s an antagonist.
Although… Speculation and theories are welcome.

Dr. Halsey knows that Cortana is in the Domain, a galactic network of information that was once used by the Forerunner adults that reached both mental and physical epitome.

Halo CE, 2 & 3 was in part about defeating the ultimate organic threat…The Flood…So Halo 4, 5 Guardians & the next one(s) could switch it up and have AI as the ultimate evil or travel down a familiar territory and have an AI & The Flood team up like like Mendicant Bias’s betrayal of the Forerunners.

Seriously, though- Ligas has a point, with Spark escaping in the final bit of book II in the Forerunner series, Cortana (possibly) recompiling herself inside the Domain, and nutty promethian AIs…seems like Terminator meets Tron, if I am to be honest. (This is not a spoiler, as these scenes are already mentioned in the previous games-the compiling bit is a personal speculation of mine based off of the theory of subprocesses/sub-AIs (Cortana copies in H4), and their efforts at self-preservation-at ONE point, at LEAST one must have realized that survival was nil unless she combined with/took over the neural net of some other copies…not completely sure how this will play out, to be honest.)

Except not really. They ignore the lore they themselves have established about forerunners, the mantle, Didact, the flood, etc all just to ham fist an evil Cortana story in there? I mean, of all the directions they could have taken the story, this is easily the stupidest one they could have chosen. Where’s the librarian and what did she unlock in chief? Where’s the Didact? Where’s the flood? Why reintroduce the arbiter or tease the return of Brutes and the Flood in the comics? Why not just respect Cortana’s peaceful pasing in Halo 4 and move on for gods sakes and actually expand the universe like the promised instead of being it back to a cliche rampant AI story? Why even bother spending so
much time developing universe lore if you’re just going to
chuck it out the window???
