ONI have dug their own grave... GLASSLANDS SPOILERS

So, at the end of Glasslands, Halsey is arrested by Parangosky for crimes against humanity and Lucy gives Halsey a good whack round the face. What Parangosky says after shows how very thick these characters are written to be…

Parangosky says that the Spartans will be given full access to their parental records and every detail about their past. Apparently, Parangosky is completely unaware of the consequences that this is going to have… Here’s a scenario that follows:

  • Fred finds out about his family, all seems tickety-boo as they’re still alive so he decides to go pay them a visit, this is his chance to integrate himself into normal human society for the first time since he was 6.

  • Fred turns up on their doorstep, awkwardness ensues as he reveals to the woman 3 feet shorter than him that he’s her son.

  • WHAM! Chain reaction! Other Spartans reveal themselves to their families and there is a massive amount of backlash in the media for Halsey, the woman who turned these children into “monsters” and “freaks”. Spartans are segregated from their families because they can’t accept what has been done to their children, most of the parents would have moved on from the loss of their children anyway and now they’ve come back and revealed that they never died. Mental trauma abound!

  • Oh, here’s a totally unforseeable and cruel plot twist! Halsey reveals that ONI gave her the green light for this project and even funded it, and that ONI themselves got over 900 other children for another Spartan project designed as disposable supersoldiers. Talk about awkwardness in the court room!

  • Everyone rises up against ONI, their other twisted experiments are revealed (as Halsey had access to a lot of classified records and spills the beans), the UNSC will attempt to shut down ONI completely and some kind of civil conflict will ensue. Thus, humanity is massively weakened by this series of events.

And then Parangosky starts talking about making more Spartans in a similar fashion to the ORION project, because that went really well, right? Where will the funding come from for this? I guess rebuilding is no longer a priority then if more Spartans are going to be made for some reason we’re not told? Spartan-IVs? Is this some kind of fan fiction?

Do you think paragnosky would not consider that, the s3’s still alive may hace dead parents so they might want to give their respects and learn about them, also all s3’s are orphans. There is not much of a problem in this. Yeah a family will feel confused but overall there won’t be a relation between the family and the spartans are likely to be dissapointed and return to the army.

Paragnosky is mainly doing this to gain political leverage against Halsey a laast f u to her by gaining loyalty of the spartans who are what halsey lives for.

Gaining the spartans on her side will be enough to destroy Halsey also there were many oni personnel against it so they can be gotten rid of easily by saying a hidden secret among one group of oni led by halsely and only recently did they learn of it.

> all s3’s are orphans.

How do you know that? Also, why would that make a difference at all? They still took these children and turned them into DISPOSABLE soldiers, they were raised to die. Ever heard of morals and ethics? These would certainly come into play here…

> Yeah a family will feel confused but overall there won’t be a relation between the family and the spartans are likely to be dissapointed and return to the army.

Have you seen Torchwood? There’s an episode that deals with this kind of story, a mother loses a child she loves whilst he’s young, years pass and eventually she discovers that he’s alive. She sees him and he’s become a “monster”, she rejects him as her son because she can’t love him. Whilst this is obviously a totally different universe to Halo, the reaction of the parent is definitely something that’d be typical. The result would be the parents and Spartans suffering from the trauma of rejection and the only chance they had at being normal humans.

And what would they do in the army? There’s no enemy to fight at the time, they’d be sat there twiddling their thumbs.

How will Parangosky be gaining any kind of leverage over anything when it’s revealed that ONI were the ones who sanctioned Halsey’s actions and even funded it?

Well this is pale compared to the nule everyone will be angry oni shuts down and oni rebuilds itself under a new name, oni will be used as a scapegoat for this new agency

The IQ at ONI seems to have dropped sharply. They’re alot less background necessary evil and more Snidely Whiplash comic book villainy now.

Which sucks.

Oh sure we’ll let out the secret of our super soldiers’ pasts by letting them see the families that until this book none of the S-IIs had on their minds as they saw each other as family. Letting the news out will of course have no negative repercussions…aside from revealing the dark and shady history of the Spartan program and most likely leading to the angry pitchfork mob heading for ONI.

Way to go new and -mentally handicapped- ONI.

As for gaining Spartan loyalty:
If the previous novels are any indication, including Jorge’s in-game attitude towards Halsey, Parangosky doesn’t have a chance in hell of gaining any loyalty, not from the II series at least.

Hey they still are able tosay and no one can deny it tgese sacrifices were needed to win the war. They can also say they feel sorry for it and it hurt them as much to make this decision and anyway the spartan project is now famous as the hero of humanity and someone will try to find out as much as they can of them. Nicestory made. Better to look as if they are honest and more likelyy to be forgiven.

But if found out through incestigation it will feel bad.

Also people will care less when this news is highest story as there is still animosity against thr covie species and it won’t affect public opinion. Everyone knew they were evil it was just that it won’t have much of an impact except this time peoplr will know it cost them this to win the war.

Also this will be highlight for a weak and most are busy rebuillding. Also maybe journalism was put on hold for rebuilding.

why does Lucy slaps Halsey? ( havent read the book and cant buy it now cause saving for few games )

I’ve always wondered if a Spartan’s clone did survive. Even though it’s a low possibility, it’s possible that any of the Spartan’s that are still alive may meet their clone. Minus John-117 we know his clone is dead.

Halsey’s Journal quote:
Although a small fraction of clones are projected to live a normal lifespan

Bolded portion is false. Palace Hotel covered Chief as he fought his way towards the Scarab in New Mombasa and he ran into his sister towards the end of that mission. He actually considered briefly if he should even bring up the fact that the brother she thought was dead was still alive, kicking, and bending the Covenant over at every turn. The only reason he did not do so was because he did not believe that it was worth letting personal feeling that could make a mission that had been pear shaped from the beginning get even worse.

… John didn’t run into “his sister”. He ran into a girl from Eridanus II that had saved.

Spartans are spartans, they’re with eachother and do you seriously think they’d just try to go and find their “home”?

Also most spartans will be imterested in their family background but won’t be willing to meet them.

Also the spartan 4 program will show yes they were deaperate during those years but now due to progress they can do the procedure more safely and will be ethically responsible. Everyone will sooner or later forgive them.

Parangosky has spent years grooming Osman to take her place and see that very clearly continue in across the events in Glasslands.

The whole going public with the SPARTAN project’s dirty laundry is more to do with Parangosky ruining Halsey’s name, reputation and career. She’s well aware take as head of ONI she’ll be going down and retiring - heck she used her argument she said to Halsey during the public hearing.

ONI is not going anywhere. There’s Trevelyon, keeping the Sangeili off-balance by supplying the religious zealots, the Spartan-Fours and the Infinity and a ton of other hidden projects and plans.

ONI may suffer a hit in reputation but what does a shadowy organisation care what the public thinks? The baby kidnapper is (to the the public) dead. The head of ONI has resigned. The damage is already done.

Also the rebel elites may be a way for oni to pull out and organize these dissidents with anti-human beliefs included and once they are all known and tagged they can be easily neutralized.

Mendez made a point (more than once even) of mentioning that the only qualification for being an S3 was that the covenant killed your parents.

She punches her square in face rather, and it’s because she was being an -Yoink- to the engineer friend she made in the shield world.

I’ll call Tor and let them know that you could finish this series and they don’t actually need Karen anymore.

The book was awesome and I look forward to see the development and finishing of the story in the subsequent books.

I’d gladly finish the series, as a writer myself I bet I could do a damn better job than she did…

Yea I laughed at that part. I was actually thinking Mendez was going to hit her first. She was acting pretty authoritarian and had it coming. The little guys don’t want a fight. They just want to work; it’s their hobby.

Alex, you have a brain. Use it.

The spartan-IIIs and IIs were getting along rather well.
But Lucy’s frontal lobe is not so correct, infact, their frontal lobes aren’t, the S-IIIs.

That can explain things in Reach.

Another complaint he did was that ONI dug their grave by giving the spartans access to family documents when in reality they weren’t ONI won’t take the hit Paragnosky is willing to take all the negative comments with her as she goes to retirement and let Osman take over with a cleaner slate.

This is why they started Spartan 4 program, that included consenting adults so that they can show yes we did all this evil but we were led by Dr.Halsey and that we were at the brink of extinction and so we did something desperate which we know was trully against our beliefs and all, and we are sorry for this thats why we are ending these projects so that no more children can come to harm by them.

Also the public will understand, what could you do humanity was about to die they needed every little second they could get to survive and it worked. Yes the cost was terrible but they survived and now they have a chance of winning.

Also most of the public don’t care right now and they just wish that they could get their lives back and start living, also are there any reporting agencies working probably no.

Giving family files were not important as Pragnosky knew that the Spartans won’t go looking for their families plus nearly all if not all are dead, the only ones living were the S2’s and they came from outer colonies cause their will be less concern and most were dead by now. S3’s were orphans as shown in the story Ghost of Onyx. Found from the refugees fleeing the covenant advance. They were willing to do anything to enact their vengence.

Mostly ONI is okay with letting this go public as they know it will and if they don’t come out clean and someone else does it for them than the review by the public is bad whereas if they do it themselves the people will understand that they were only looking for the best interest and that as the results show it was the only thing that was working. So the public view won’t turn any direction.

Also Paragnosky is trying to divert all the blame to Halsey and by making her on creations hate her it was a way for her to shut Halsey down for good and make sure she can’t fight back. She will take the blame unable to think rationally, only able to do her work.

Whereas if any negative attention comes to ONI and that will be less than that Halsey gets Paragnosky will take the blame step down, showing people she’s owing up to her part in not stopping this and most people will think it will be a new page turned for ONI.

In fact Paragnosky will go with all the blame and while people think ONI is starting from scratch again and doing their practices ethically she will know that nothing changed and all that she had done will continue. Paragnosky knows she must go due to retirement which is why she is willing to take all the negativity with her so that there is an easier and cleaner playing field for Osman.
