ONI Behind Ads for Halo 5

Think about it for a sec, 343industries was actually really smart with their ads.

Hence why its called Hunt the Truth for the ads.
ONI is trying to round up the remaining Spartans of Dr. Catherine Halsey, John 117 in their eyes is more of a hindrance then a savior, hence why Locke is sent in after him due to his job as an ONI Retrieval Agent of sorts.

So all the ads you see for Halo 5 is from the perspective of ONI relaying it to the masses, getting them to go against the S-II, hence the ad with Chief just running in and not saving anyone at Meridian or whatever planet it was, from the eyes of a civilian, they’d feel very betrayed by the thought of their hero forgetting about them.

So before people complain about the ads not matching what the game is really about, that’s the point, the games events you play is the truth, while the ads are ONI Lies being spread to the masses of the Inner and Outer Colonies.

He has a point.

Thank you, ONI has been a big focus for 343industries, Kilo-5, Forerunner series, all that, all from the perspective of ONI

Bungie series focus on the UNSC and Chief, but now we’re seeing it from the real head of the military, hence why we have Locke, also Vale herself is partially ONI as well as Buck literally dating an Agent of ONI.

THIS! people can’t seem to realise this.

I read this as “aim down sights” the first time reading it and was SO CONFUSED… But after realizing you meant ads, I do agree

Except that’s not what happened in the game at all. John and Blue Team were doing their missions, with the full approval of the UNSC, until they went to find Cortana. This is when they were declared AWOL. Not because of some vendetta, but because they already knew Cortana was a risk (thanks to Halsey) and didn’t think that John was psychologically equipped to deal with her. Think about how long it takes him to finally stop saying “I can talk to her”. If it was any other opponent he would have been ready to take them out right from the start, but because it’s Cortana he decided to try diplomacy.

Locke was sent in to stop him so he wouldn’t interfere with their attempts to stop Cortana and the Guardians, not because they want John out of the picture. Locke doesn’t even work for ONI anymore.

This makes a whole lot of sense.

Good point, I never thought of it from that angle

I’m just saying though, ONI is a big factor in all this. Including the Halo 5 Ads we’ve gotten that don’t match up with the game itself.

Man, you got suckered by ONI. Remember #huntthetruth

This is a very cool theory, -Yoink!- ONI…

Hunt The Truth was actually a thing started by ONI when they hired Benjamin to do a story on chief, to paint him as the bad guy, when he didn’t, Benjamin was silenced, same with the fact that ONI itself claimed Chief to have died on Meridian after the Guardian showed up.

We also had two sides to the same ad where we have Chief standing over Locke, ready to kill, then we have Locke standing over Chief.
Also Cortana is a known creation of Dr. Halsey, the very person ONI painted AS A TRAITOR TO THE UNSC, for doing a job ONI hired her to do.

Spartan-II’s are a problem to ONI, namely for the fact that they aren’t loyal to just them, they’re loyal to Master Chief as well.
Blue Team literally followed John into hell for their hunt for Cortana, WITHOUT QUESTION.

Like I said before, Bungie’s Halo was all about the UNSC’s struggle against The Covenant, now 343industries Halo is all about the aftermath of it an ONI’s roll in tearing things apart, for example, the Sangheili civil war was funded by ONI using Kilo-Five.

This whole Covenant Remnant bull we’ve been dealing with was ALL funded by ONI, weapons and all.
ONI needs a war to continue so they remain the higher power within the Military.

In Last Light, ONI sends in Fredrick in with his team of S-III’s to find Forerunner relics, which they find, a Forerunner Ancilla, which is brought back to ONI.

Hunters in the Dark is all about a team going to The Ark after an ONI Recon team went missing, Vale is also an ONI Liaison and pretty much a translator for them as well as Phillips. Now our enemy is of course Cortana, a creation of Dr, Halsey and the most advanced A.I. of her time for a few reasons, Forerunner data stored within her and that she’s the first creation from a living brain.

Here’s another thing for you guys to think about;

Cortana is working for The Flood.

Think about it, Gravemind has her in his clutches for at least a month or so right?
A single Gravemind during the Forerunner-Flood War used something known as Logic Plague, a process in which the Gravemind convinces the A.I. or Ancilla that their side is a just cause, that what The Flood is trying to do is the correct course of action for the entirety of the galaxy.

The Cortana we see now is just a fragment of Cortana, the fragment infected with this Logic Plague and she’s policing the galaxy so The Flood can return in full force.

Excusing poor marketing for being meta is not a valid rebuttal.

so from now on games can have BS ads about their games with a story that dosent relate then claim oh that was from the perspective of something in the game.

Please don’t be so negative.

Regardless of whether this is really why the marketing is what it is or not, I like the creative thinking behind this perspective.

If this is the reasoning for the marketing being so different from the game, it would have done them well to put content into the game better linking it so that people didn’t have to guess and speculate about it.

I will say that Dark Souls doesn’t have an actual lore, its all fan speculation and such and the results afterwards are quite amazing.

It’s not just negative, but true.
Wasn’t this all about hunting the truth for you?
If so, why would you deny the truth that this was a poorly executed marketing scheme?
There was no means of telling what the final product was to be from the advertisements and led to customers requiring to play the full games themselves to know what kind of game they were playing.

He has a good point, and I think that is what 343 was going for. ONI gets one story, but tells a different one to the people. In a sense now, Hunt the Truth really did have a lot to do with the game at least in advertising. We all knew before Hunt the Truth ONI kept things hidden and covered up stuff, but 343 took this and used it for their ads to as you said, make it like ONI is trying to see the Chief as hindrance more than a savior. This kind of advertising, I like.

What I mean is that 343industries isn’t always the bad guy here, they made a great story, including these ads people are so angry about, but think about it, from a story perspective, ONI is in control here.
