how come in a 1v1 situation when each Spartan is absolute, if they melee each other, they both die.
shouldn’t the person who pressed melee that split millisecond faster get the kill?
I mean, there’s very little chance both players pressed melee at exactly the right time, m’right?
If it’s something about lag compensation, please explain to me in lamest terms. XD
…and is there any way to avoid this somehow?

Dude H3 had a massive problem with trading… pretty much the only way to avoid it is use a sword or hammer.
I love when it happens…it means I didn’t win…but I didn’t lose either
Somehow I thought this was about hijacking since it was introduced in h2. Anywho trading (even Melee) was in CE as well.

lol I’m sure it was. I just remember when I played with my friends, there was hardly a chance to melee with the OP pistol, loads of vehicles, and Blood Gluch 24/7…

It’s compensation for lag.

You did ask, mate. They can’t really do the millisecond tracking, because you may be closer to the server than I and if we melee at the same time you would win if that were the case. The same thing would be true if you pulled host in the old days. It compensates by having us ‘trade’ because it is a quick dirty way to make things fair. If the two melees come within a certain amount of time they are effectively at the same time. There was an update for Halo 3 (I think, I’m old don’t bug my memory) that made you far more likely to trade.
The only way I can see you avoiding this situation is… If you don’t try to melee me back😉
Haha I remmember the old Bungie Weekly Update where they discussed this implementation in Halo 3.
There’s basically a window where you can bash and it will cause a trade - remember in Halo 3 there was horrendous host advantage and often bad connection disparity.
It’s become part of the game. You can still ‘outbash’ someone you just need to make them miss the bash with thrust or jumping over their head etc.
I like that it causes a trade rather than a win, much less frustrating for the person on the receiving end. And even with the dedicated servers there’s still slight connection disparity to account for!
You’ll notice that it’s possible to ‘trade’ even with weapon kills in H5 in rare circumstances (or more common if you’re on a distant server or have a bad connection).
I like trading, it’s just the best when both players go flying, lol. Honestly, one does have a chance to dodge, but good luck with that.
