One thing about Halo that keeps being unique

I remember way back in 2006 when my friends and I used to get together and system link Halo CE. There would always sometimes be trouble though because the modems would bug out. It was the same with Halo 2. It’s what other games don’t have the ability of doing. Halo has that uniqueness of bringing family and friends around to system link and play. Whenever someone would mention Halo, there was a good chance there was a get together that night or weekend. I have high hopes this’ll continue with Halo 4.

Thoughts?

Of course, probably more with the older ones, but it’s an awesome game that brings people together.

I agree

I played alot with my brother halo 2 in system link and it never bugged. One thing i didn’t like was joining in others rooms, my game started lagging way too much. Our hope was only creat a room so people could join us. I tell you, we made only rockets and in a matter of seconds 14 people joined! I missed those old times, where i couldn’t beat my brother which i took like 7 years just to win a game against him xD Good times.

One of the things that has me most excited is the fact that it’ll bring me and a lot of close friends that I haven’t talked to in a while back together. That feeling after launch when everyone bought the game and is on, enjoying a new Halo. It’ll be over Xbox LIVE, but it’s still the same concept.

Without system link in Halo who knows where MLG would be now, for every game, not just Halo.

All the friends I have now, I’ve either met on Halo 3 or Reach.

There would be no MLG. Halo is the franchise that mainly started MLG right? Or am I wrong on that.

That’s what I’m saying, Halo was very important in starting the competitive scene.

That it was.

I don’t have too much experience with system link(only on occasion when we felt like getting a second Xbox and TV out at my friend’s house), but I do remember the insanely fun 4-player splitscreen we used to do years ago. It would be me, my friend, his brother, and his friend, all squished together on a bunk bed, with 4 wired controllers overlapping one another.

The screen was no more than 26 inches, and each quarter of the screen was much smaller. However, this is the most fun I’ve ever had playing halo(especially those insane matches on blood gulch and sidewinder). Even if I was too young to understand it, I still had a lot of fun playing it.

I expect nothing less than to allow system link, as well as multiplayer split-screen and such. I can’t believe so many games nowadays leave out such basic features. COD, Battlefield, just about every popular shooter on xbox leaves out splitscreen capabilities. And usually if they DO have them, they are limited to onle 1 or 2 gamemodes, and usually left out of online multiplayer/matchmaking. I’m glad Halo has always kept this basic fundamental in all aspects of its gameplay, even if some wish for it to not be.

Wow. This is wrong. MLG has been around way before Halo.

You were still system linking Halo CE 2 years after Halo 2’s release?

To be honest. Halo 2 created Console online play for shooters. So it’s just as much responsible for keeping players apart as Halo CE was for bringing them together.

You’re confusing MLG with the Competitive gaming scene. The Competitive gaming scene has been around since before Console gaming existed. Competitive Donkey Kong (Arcade) exists. And Competitive Gaming got EXTREMELY popular upon the release of classic favourites like Street Fighter 2 and Starcraft.

MLG specifically didn’t take off until Halo came out, and if it wasn’t for Halo CE, MLG would never have survived long enough to become what it is today.

The only difference between those games and games today is the easier access to online play.

OP, I agree with you, on some points, tho I started out with the PC version of Halo, I still got to have a few LAN games back in High school, and that’s the one things I enjoyed, was getting with some good friends and shooting each other. And one of the main reasons why I play MP at all any more is because of my good friends who I talk to. There are things that if they changed like party chat, I would cancel my Xbox LIVE, take my Xbox out to the shooting range and put some nice big holes in it. Mostly because most of my friends are in other parts of the world, some because they live there, others because of military, and not being able to stay in touch with them, it would pain me so.
