One step closer to real life ODST's

I haven’t made a thread on Waypoint in awhile, I thought this would be a interesting thread to make . .

I came across this when I was reading video game articles on Kotaku and saw this Real Life ODST helmet

I wonder if it’s a sign of ODST’s becoming a reality . .

I wonder if Drop Pod’s will be made too.

Looks more like a marine helmet to be honest.

> Looks more like a marine helmet to be honest.

I could see it looking like one of the marine helmets from Halo 4, but not like the marines from other Halo games.

You know the O in ODST stands for Orbital, right? We would we leave the atmosphere, just to launch the soldiers back through it when Paratroopers already exist?

And why can’t it be like GR: Advanced Warfighter, or Future Soldier? Those games have soldiers that have HUDs integrated into their helmets.

I know the O stand’s for Orbital, maybe if such a thing could happen in real life, it would be used by special forces to more safely enter enemy territory, no need for airplanes.

I would think it could down the road be modified for use in space.

Yes such helmets are in other games, a lot of FPS games have such helmets . .

So you want to replace airplanes with rockets to “safely enter enemy territory?”

Yikes.

You know what’s safer than flying a rocket into space, then launching HUMANS to Earth from Orbit? Just flying a plane and landing there.

At least it’s not a copied design of most of the ones on H4. Can’t stand most of the current ones.

Ah yes, but can they drop him from space?

> Ah yes, but can they drop him from space?

Only one way to find out!

I don’t see it happening and there isn’t really a reason for it now. We are still far away from it, so you should get your mind back to Earth. (sorry if that sounds rude)

You spend too much time hoping that the world will become like Halo one day, but it isn’t going to happen.

If they do invent a Drop Pod though, tell me so I can enlist

And it’s a cool helmet.

I think drop pods are in concept form of some sort.

I think such technology should be more researched so that we can have such technology on hand in case we need it.

Suit’s of armor like the armor of Spartans or ODSTs would be very useful to have on hand if we came across life that has better technology then us.

I think such things as warp drives, shields, energy weapons, better kinetic energy weapons, should be R&D and mass produced…

The last big thing we’ve have done (Something that I personally think is worth credit) is landing on the moon more then 40 years ago.

As for what people have said about Drop Pod’s, such a thing should be done like at the beginning of Halo ODST . . Halo ODST Opening Cutscene

Such real life ODSTs would live in orbit around the planet they are stationed, or they would live on spaceships orbiting the planet they are stationed.

Our current level of technology is pretty primitive I think.

It’s taken 2000 plus years for us to reach our current level of technology, I think if we had a more open social hierarchy, instead of a Ivory Tower hierarchy, then we would have been able to have more people involved in the decision making process of what should be done.

What if this happened ?

Our most advanced publicly known weapons are cruise missiles, MOABs, FOABs (FOABs are the Russian counterpart of the MOAB), experimental Railguns, and Nukes.

Our most advanced publicly known vehicles are the Abrams tank, the Apache, the F-35, and the F-22.

The thing’s I listed are thing’s that we would be able to get to where we would need them fast…

I personally think subs and other sea units are more of a support unit, not a frontline unit.

There are of course thing’s that aren’t publicly known there always is, but they shouldn’t be counted on as being combat ready.

Just curious but do you REALLY know what subs and “other sea units” are really capable of? I’ll admit I probably know a bit more than the average person seeing as how we’re a Navy family but still. If you really think they’re just support, you’re misinformed.

Also, you want to waste a LOT of money and resources on something that, at the end of the day, is useless and superfluous. Good luck with that.

just take a look at this cuz it’s kinda a good idea

The airforce website was showing off a HUD, wrist GPS, power absorber, etc. Also look up the TALOS armor.

Also there is no point in an orbital drop when you have the HALO, high altitude low orbit, drop. They need to be stealthy and can’t be dropping small meteors wherever they land.

We are still miles off the technology for space travel, Drop pods and all that business.

Even during Halo’s dates Drop pods were still darn dangerous, in fact if I remember correctly, numerous of ODSTs have died during drops.

I mean currently the Special Operations Community in Real Life are still using HALO (High Altitude, Low Opening) jumps for quiet insertions into enemy territory, which is as close to ODSTs we are going to get for now and from talking to many active service US Marines, Rangers and only one Green Beret, at the moment, they don’t like the thought of these Helmets, mainly from the Visors causing change in their vision due to the shape…However speaking of Shape of visors or whatever that can alter one’s aim. Oakley has recently develop a new Eye protection/shades for Law Enforcement and Military, which from it’s shape will only alter and individual’s vision very very slightly compared to other eye protection and the Lense is called “Prizm” which uses technology to enhance colour of the environment in terms of contrast (It can help many with skiing with the Snow being white and the clouds also being white, but being able to differentiate the difference of colour a lot better)

Just saying…the optics where his eyes would be are actually NVGs (Night vision Goggles) not HUD Optics…

nope
