One problem I've noticed about the HUD.

After watching this .gif for about 5 or so minutes, I couldn’t help the feeling that something was missing. Being all curious and whatnot, I decided to play some Reach and find out what it was.

It turns out, that the HUD doesn’t display [very well] that you’re being shot.

When the player gets hit with a BR shot, the HUD gets brighter and then resets. There is no real visual cue that you’ve taken too much damage; sure, the shield bar is there, but most don’t look at it while trying to shoot someone else.

In Halo Reach and I think in Halo 3 too, when you get shot, a slightly transparent hexagonal tessellation (albeit with an orange/red 'stain) was shown in the direction you were hit.

343i needs to implement this. It was a great visual cue that you were a) taking damage and b) taking damage from a particular direction.

This is what I mean.

Ahh, thoughts?

I can see what your saying, but I think it will be easier to tell if this is an issue when playing. As a spectator its difficult to make judgement.

What? A big red thing pops up leaning towards the direction the bullet came from.

Remember, it’s still a work in progress and subject to change. I’m sure better damage notification would be in the game when released. Also, EdG360 has a point. Maybe it’s different from being a spectator to an actual player instead.

Uhmmmmmm, it’s right there!

Thankyou for saying that. There seems to be to many ppl jumpimng the gun a only few who read that message at the start

Indeed, but HUD design won’t change too much from now until release. Just putting it out there.

Well when the guy was shot a red arrow pointed in the enemy’s direction.

The guy that was shooting him was just missing him completely. When contact was made it showed that he was getting shot at.

I’m not sure if everyone is blind but I see a damage indicater and remember this is still being changed maybe as we speak so expect it to change and also the one thing I noticed was wolves vs. unicorns lol

Yeah keep your eyes right about the red guys head. The damage indicator is right there!

I don’t care about that, I care about the lack of… that effect in Reach/3. I don’t know what it’s called, but it was a hexagonal tessellation that appeared on your HUD when you took damage. Generally, the longer it was on screen, the more damage you took.

I don’t think it’ll be much of a problem, they’ll surely add something. That big red arrow on the other hand bothers the hell out of me. Part of Halo is using your intuition to figure out which direction the shots are coming from.

If they just leave it that way, I’ll have to enable controller vibration which annoys the heck out of me.

Hmmm… I don’t get how you don’t see it.

There’s only a massive red arrow there…

I can see it perfectly.

He was only hit once too remember.

The game isnt even in its polishing stages yet… =|

What are youu saying, i still don’t undestand? The guy missed all the shots except the last one, and thats when the arrow appeared, what more do u want?

I think that the red arrow is supposed to represent that same thing.
