so it is my personally the best halo game ever that being said i have not played combat evolved, halo 2, halo 3, and halo 5
It’s good, but you should probably play the other Halos. Pretty damn good.
I did start a little while after odst came out and that is the game I started in
It’s an amazing depiction of Humanity’s struggle during the Human-Covenant War. It’s multiplayer revolutionized Halo in terms of customization and outright play value. It always brings players back, even today.
halo reach was the 1 game i have played more then any other. i love it and miss it
Eh…I was rather disappointed with it. Had a lackluster campaign and multiplayer. Firefight wasn’t bad, and forge was pretty well made and had great functions, which lead to fun custom games.
However, it gets a 6/10 in my books, and I would pass it. The other Halo titles are much better.
I wouldn’t call it the best Halo game. I think its great though!
Campaign was good, and the characters likeable if not terribly deep. Multiplayer was fun, but a bit controversial and at times broken. Hard to be super competitive in it too (compared to previous installments). I think it’s the first Halo title that was dropped from MLG status.
Great easter eggs and customizations. A downgraded firefight experience from ODST I felt, but definitely glad to have it along for the ride. Probably the #1 Halo game in terms of replay value and overall depth. Could have used more DLC though IMO. After the slew of packs that Halo 3 got, support kind of waned, which I guess makes sense with Bungie leaving the building.
Fantastic DLC however. Probably why I wanted more of it.

This. This hits the nail on the head for me. I really do appreciate it when people take an unbiased approach at looking at a video game. Reach for me is my favorite game of all time. I agree with everything here. The thing that bugs me though is that lots of people completely disregard and call the game garbage just because it wasn’t competitive. I understand why someone would dislike the game as lots of halo players only played to be competitive but in their arguments they completely disregard how great the game was and how much value was in it and just call it outright terrible due to only its competitive flaws…

Reach did SO MUCH right. We haven’t had a proper easy to use user interface or party up system since. It’s a shame that when people who disliked the game just write it off immediately saying “bloom” or “armor lock” or “jetpack”, and yet they praise the hell out of Halo 5 which does some big things really right, but gets the pieces that glue it together really wrong.
I like reach better than halo 5
They’re all really good.
In my opinion 4 and 5 are less good, but Reach is by far the best; then 3.

I avoid the issue of the gameplay, and the campaign because some have issue with the story, but when I do praise Reach I always mention these things;
- Great, working and simple party system. (Definitely the best in the series)
- Great chat system, Proxy chat, in game chat, able to communicate with opposing team. You could see who was in chat, who wasn’t and who didn’t have a mic (And yes, even 4 years after party chat became a thing you could still talk in game)
- The best graphical quality (even the art is well done)
- Fantastic unlock system
- Fantastic Armour system
- You can use that armour in all modes
- Great mode list, Campaign, MP, Firefight
- All the modes can be played, Split Screen, Online and LAN
- Had a great Forge, that was a huge leap over Halo 3’s
- Had a great playlist selection
- Had a full set of gamemodes old and new
- Daily and Weekly challenges that were both engaging and rewarding
- Easy to use file shares
The engine itself, and the game features were a great base to build off of. Use Reach’s Features and Halo 2’s gameplay and 343i would have had the ultimate Halo game. Instead they merged the gameplay of Reach and classic Halo for Halo 4 then abandoned it all for Halo 5. I just don’t understand throwing away all the things that worked so well for things that either don’t work or are extremely convoluted and broken.
