I don’t know how many of you realized this, but Halo 4 is the first Halo game to have the Master Chief talk during gameplay! (excluding firefight) I think this is really cool! In the novels John talks a lot more, not just during the cut scenes. I really hope there are riveting, exciting scenes where John utters an exclamatory if crap hits the fan or something. What do you guys think about this? I love it.
Yeah I like it too. I always found it weird that in past games, whenever someone would speak to Chief or give him orders, he’d never respond and just continue on in silence. So it’s nice to see that in those moments during gameplay, he’ll actually acknowledge his allies now.
I like that too. Hopefully John will have more of a character than a suit for players to step into. sorry to say it fan boys but Halo 2 and 3 made me stop caring about the chief, lets see 4 change that
I know what you mean OP and I think it’s a great change. Chief is after all in the military and not responding to orders wouldn’t fly well there ^^
Over all it’s easier to attach to a character that does talk, has a personality, hopes, dreams, ideas! A “living” character.
After all, the best moments with Chief was during cut-scenes when he did talk “time to give the covenant back their bomb”, a classic.
Indeed. I don’t know about you, but I could never immerse myself into the MC’s helmet, so to me, he was a poor avatar, and as we all know, avatars tend to be poor characters.
In the novels, John was a decent character, and it looks like Halo 4 is attempting to depict him in a similar manner as his book counterpart.
I’m really glad that he’s finally getting some proper ingame character development.
the master cheif is beyond a war hero but a legend in the unsc known by all and recognized fearfully and inspiringly giving hope to all around him or striking fear in his foes he shouldnt always take orders but i would love to see him give orders and have a good strategy plan for how they will strike next not just cortana telling what would be a good idea
I hope I’ll be bossing marines around. I hated how I had to take orders from them and do everything for them. I’m not just a weapon’s platform like Hunters damn it (and the truth is, neither are they. They recite poetry! They should be valued, not lone wolves, lacking bond brother relationship, like in Reach).

-Yoink- yeah! That would be awesome!
I for one am really interested about how his interactions with Cortana will play out. As in the books they usual had a lot of chit chat and banter.

I’m not ure how well that would translate into gameplay. Sure it could work in cutscenes but it might not in gameplay. What sucks more than getting distracted by their talking and being sniped by a Beam Rifle Jackal on Legendary?
As long as Chief doesn’t start to monologue like he is in a Shakespearean play, we’re good.
