Halo wars needs just one last TU, just to balance out the game a bit more. It’s already a reasonably balanced game, except for the following issues:
*Gauss hogs attack needs maybe a 5% reduction, mostly because in 3v3 unarranged, you simply can’t defend against three sets of gauss hogs in the first 6 mins, even with a few tanks and four rail gun turrets… (I have tried, but they produced hogs faster than I could kill them/produce my own tanks).
Either that or slightly increasing the research times for hogs, making it just that little bit longer to get an extra tank or 2?
*Gauss hogs again, but this time they need a reasonable damage reduction when facing air. Air beats vehicles right? Not at the moment, gauss shreds air way too easily, meaning only ground units can be used to defend against gauss spams (Hunters/tanks) and a carpet bomb/Mac blast/cryo means gauss easily wins every battle nearly…
*Covenant leaders
Getting rushed by a covenant leader, who then teleports in troops, you just can’t defend against it. Their leader power will easily destroy any turrets or early units you try and defend with, this is especially a problem on 3v3 Exile…
I see 2 solutions to this
- Similar to the UNSC leader power “charge up time” in deathmatches, covenant should not be able to port in troops or use their leader power for say 3-4 mins. Will allow you to get turrets up and some units as well, balancing out the game.
- Instead of getting a free leader when the temple is built, make it you have to purchase them instead. That extra minute before the leader appears would mean a lot when defending against a rush, again balancing out the game. personally this seems the better and easier soltuion to implement, still making rushes possible, they’d just need a bit more planning instead or walking over to a base with two turrets, porting in troops and theres nothing you can do about it
(D-bombs don’t really work, the leader just goes around the other side of the base and starts teleporting in troops again)
That’s about it, the rest of the game is very balanced, making it the players skill and not their (Might I say in the case of the covenant, OP) leaders who will decide the game.
Comments and suggestions would be nice, thanks!
