One Gun... TO RULE THEM ALL!!!

I feel that a key factor to what made Halo so successful as a skill based FPS was the fact that there was one gun which dominates the game.

I’d say the BR is the perfect weapon (the Halo 2 version) to have as the gun to use in Halo 4.

The CE pistol kills a bit too quick and is too difficult to master for the masses. The BR is a simple to use, quick killing yet teamwork essential weapon. The DMR, even at zero bloom, takes too long to kill and results in a player being limited to what they can do as an individual.

The thing I’d like to discuss in this topic is the primary weapon of choice, but also to discuss what other essential weapons are required in Halo 4. I’d love to see the Beam Rifle come back, the grenade launcher, dual wielding and of course an AR that packs more of a punch.

On top of this I’d also like vehicles that are useful again. I can understand making it so a sniper can demolish a vehicle in a fair number of shots, but making it so half a team can pepper a vehicle for a matter of moments to destroy it does not make sense. In Halo 3 you had to be smart to take out a vehicle and it also made it so you could have mindless fun in BTB. I liked driving my Mongoose around trying to splatter people or just roaming around in the Hog. BTB now is all about people betraying other people for the sniper and then jetpacking to an obscure ledge to take out singe enemies on foot. That or 8 man pub stomping, either way BTB needs a huge change in H4.

Much, much, much love, Bandi.

Certainly not. Halo is not a one gun game.

What would be the point of having other guns if we spawn with a gun that’s so much better than the others.

This is axiomatically wrong. The only way that I could conceive of any first-person shooter being improved by the dominance of a single gun would be one in which the gameplay was built precisely around the acquirement of that gun.

I feel bad for OP for constructing such a well thought-out thread and only getting “No’s” but I kinda agree with OP. While there shouldn’t necessarily be a gun to be better than the rest, there should be a gun that should be everyone’s (mostly) favorite because it looks, feels and sounds amazing, but not because it destroys everything. Although, that gun should be extremely devastating.

Halo is a watered down arena shooter. In real arena shooters you can carry a weapon for every range. In Halo you can only carry 2 weapons due to the limited number of buttons on the controller. To alleviate the rocks paper scissors gameplay that would ensue, the utility weapon was made effective at all ranges. This way the player can always defend himself, at all ranges, as well as carry a niche weapon like a shotgun or sniper rifle that is extremely powerful but extremely limited in use.

They should keep some type of a utility weapon such as the BR but they need to buff all the other weapons so that they out perform the utility weapon in certain situations, like buffing the AR damage but reducing the accuracy so that it’s much more likely to beat the BR in CQC.

I respectfully disagree with the concept of having an ultimate go-to gun in the game. Take for example Halo 3’s weapon sandbox, it was so vast yet the majority of weapons felt useless compared to the Battle Rifle.
In Reach, I don’t feel handicapped due to using a pistol or even an Assault Rifle. That’s one thing I liked about Reach, it really did promote weapon variety.
Beam Rifle, eh sure. But dual wielding, buffed Assault Rifle, and the Grenade Launcher brought to Halo 4, please yes.
I agree with the point you made about vehicles, they definitely need to be buffed up again for BTB combat.

What you said summarizes BTB for me:
“BTB now is all about people betraying other people for the sniper and then jetpacking to an obscure ledge to take out singe enemies on foot. That or 8 man pub stomping, either way BTB needs a huge change in H4.”

In the realms of skill based FPSers, Halo pales to the older titles like Quake, Tribes and UT.

OT: We shouldn’t reintroduce one gun gameplay because it’s a bad.

you know you love it.

A Utility weapon yes, but not a weapon better than everything.

this idea is cool people shouldnt hate on OP’S all the time
