One Game-Breaking Glitch, One Not

So one of the daily challenges on Halo: Reach, House of Pain, requires players to beat a Campaign mission on Heroic with the skulls Mythic, Tilt, and Thunderstorm activated. I decided that I’d use the mission Winter Contingency due to it being one of the easier missions, but I unfortunately encountered one game-breaking glitch and one that I was able to fix.

The first glitch involved two Falcons getting stuck on one another and, as a result, I couldn’t board them to continue throughout the mission. Thankfully one of them was invincible while the other wasn’t, so I was able to destroy one and continue no problem. However, recently an even worse glitch happened on this mission where the pilot of the Falcon I was supposed to ride was somehow killed. I stupidly decided to climb into the side seat where George and Carter followed, and as I got a checkpoint around this time I was left unable to complete the mission as the Falcon was stuck on the ground due to lacking a pilot.

I unfortunately don’t have a hard drive so I don’t have either of these events recorded, but I thought I’d put that out there as a warning to others.

The same thing happened to me a while back at the low battleground option(I almost exclusively opt for the higher one on the map, I forget why I didn’t that particular time). I was unable to rectify the situation as both seemed invincible so I just restarted the mission. I may have saved the film but I forget, I’ll have to check when I have the chance. Also I think the collision happened after I got on the thing so there was literally nothing I could do.

As for completing these types of challenges just do Nightfall and use the forklift trick…usually takes me under 4 minutes to complete these this way.

I’ve never heard of the forklift trick before.

I could explain it to you but it’s easier to just look it up on YouTube…just look up nightfall speed runs and you should be good to go

It’s a trick that works in multiple Halo games, with multiple different vehicles. Frequently used to skip Campaign level sections, e.g. using a ghost to skip the huge blue barriers in ‘Reclaimer’ (Halo 4). Nightfall is indeed very fast using that trick. It also ensures all enemies in the last area don’t spawn, and you can just sprint the entire way to the forklift (ignore the civilians, it doesn’t matter). Sometimes I do have a hard time sprinting through the second area (before you meet the Gúta).

The glitches sound crazy! Would’ve loved to see those!

Btw, on Winter Contingency, it is possible to grab a Falcon when you’re not supposed to (shoot it down with the plasma pistol, make it flip so the pilot is evicted, fly it). And I think speedrunners use it, because you can skip part of the mission with it.

I always snipe the grunt off the turret and as I approach the forklift as I’m sprinting towards the pathway out I toss a grenade towards the elites off to the right to make them evade and delay their firing. Works every time.

Oh that grenade is an interesting tip, I’ll try that next time.
Wonder if there’s a Needle Rifle early on in this level, those make Elites go even more crazy. I mean you could backwards while slowly shooting near them, and they’d just keep dancing.
