I’m sure I’m not the only one realizing this, but what happened to rounds in Assault and Grifball. There’s no explosion ending the round when the bomb is planted. It’s basically one flag CTF.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t each player only have one life in Assault?
Obviously this is not a huge issue, but it does seem lackluster.

  1. Explosions are an option in custom games. It’s just different in matchmaking because Assault is no longer round based, so they don’t want people to die when they score, since there’s no reset.

  2. One life assault sounds like a variant, normal assault always had the usual respawns to my knowledge.

Not that it makes it any better, but you can make a custom game variant that is round based. As for the explosion, it shoots fireworks instead. For assault it definitely should have exploded; but it still looks sweet! Can’t wait to play it.

Assault was not always round based and blowing hell out of yourself and the guys trying to stop you was part of the fun.

Halo 2’s Assault had it spot on with the one life system. It was an intense game with proper rounds to allow fresh starts every time a team got a score. Halo 5 is turning out to be fast paced in every game mode. Assault isn’t unique anymore because, again, it’s basically one flag CTF. Grifball lost its true purpose: killing Grif when he scored (some of you may not get this).
Basically, it seems like 343i didn’t spend much time making these long awaited gamemodes. But of course we should get happy they bothered to add it in the game.

Halo 2’s assault was NOT 1 life, at least not in matchmaking. IIRC you could make it elimination style in customs, or there may have been a playlist that incorporated that, I don’t remember. I just know that the most common version was not 1 life.

I do miss the explosion though.

i know there is an explosion in grifball, i got killed by it like 3 times last night, so idk about assault
