As much fun as the AR is currently, I’d like to see a ‘one-shot’ headshot instead of the two-shot it has now. It’s a lot of fun to do a quick burst fire with the current headshot multiplier to finish off unshielded enemies. Even if it’s a campaign-only feature, I think it’s time for the AR to join the headshot club.

It’s already got a 2-shot. Making it 1 and “enabling” headshots wouldn’t change the balance much at all, and it would make way more sense if enemies don’t survive a bullet to the brain. Like, why not make it take 1 extra bullet to break shields but also allow headshots?
I disagree. The AR isn’t a precision weapon and isn’t meant to be. The fact that is does any headshot damage at all is already a huge buff compared to older games.
The commando is the precision automotatic weapon. Let its have it’s niche. If anything I feel like AR should be reduced to a 3-shot headshot kill imo. 2 almost feels too easy.

Agreed. I too want all weapons beside precision weapons ( hopefully DMR, needle rifle, old carbine later on ) to be able to KILL properly inside their range bracket.
Its. 2 to head is on the border enough. More testing is needed though, need to test against against real players soon.
The odd argument that the AR is strong at long range is a joke, you need to fight recoil and feather/ tap the trigger for such long distance.
And that KILLS the ttk in hectic fights, even if " sniping " with the AR its not worth it.
The AR is a close-medium range hybrid weapon. What do I mean? Well shotties are pure close range for max dmg, br are medium and sniper are long, dmr are medium-long hybrid, just to point it out.
Barely useful at long range, and landing 2 headshots at long range, well good aim!
It might and just MIGTH be " nerfed " to 2.5?- 3 bullets, a tiny bit more spread so it sticks most uses to close and mid range, between those two.
But the damage should stay! Maybe increase it but just so it stays at need 3 headshots to kill, tops.
And I dont want another repeat of the worthless AR from Halo 3. That thing was pitiful in most stat brackets and features.
Weak sound, poor damage, bad range, could barely be effective at mid range. And the hit detection was all over the place.
If this were to happen the sidekick and the new dmr would be completely useless the AR would just dominate anything close to mid range

The AR should dominate close range. The DRM should dominate mid to long range, and the pistol should be a backup. Also, it would only change the kill time 1 bullet for those skilled enough. And like I said earlier, they could just make it take 1 extra bullet to break shields and the change would be negated. In fact, it would increase the skill gap.
Campaign mode needs it at least.
