Sorry for the nondescript thread title, I would have been more specific but there are character limits.
I don’t know, it just seems like this is quickly becoming a repeat of what 343 and Bungie previously described as an issue in Halo: Reach. Everyone ended up using Sprint exclusively at the expense of all the other cool abilities in the arsenal, and it seems like the same thing is happening in Halo 4 with Promethean Vision. It seems overpowered to me.
I’m finding it just takes the element of surprise out of this game. I can’t sneak up on anyone anymore, because everyone I play against is flicking the thing on every five seconds. I watch the instant replays of my deaths and its almost always flick FWOOOSH THERE HE IS COMING ROUND THE CORNER BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM BLAM. Crouching doesn’t counter it, stealth camouflage doesn’t counter it, and anyone can see anyone else coming from half a mile away. It shrinks the maps down considerably and encourages players to simply turtle down at their teams’ bases and crossmap their way to victory with the DMR, which is boring.
I’m not so concerned with my KDR but I had a great one in Halo: Reach, and so far I’m just eating dirt in Halo 4. I understand there’s always a learning curve with a new game, but I’m having a tough time finding it and it just seems from my experience thus far that a big part of this is that everyone has wallhack vision and a diet sniper rifle in their spawn loadouts now.
Also, do other players share my view that the removal of the previous mechanic from Halo: Reach that forced players who were scoped in to zoom out whenever they took damage hurts the gameplay balance in Halo 4? All this seems to have done is removed what I thought was a mostly solid feature that provided a good variable to the gameplay formula, and guarantee in most cases now that the person who shoots first in a gunfight is always the winner. Whereas before with some skill and quick fingers you could turn the tide on someone who took the first shot and had you locked down in their crosshairs and keep them from being able to zoom back in and finish you off with a clean and steady shot, now its just like “DOHOHO WHO’S GONNA DIE FIRST”… Yeah, I’d like to see it return.
Really though, I’m enjoying Halo 4 for the most part. The development team did a great job and the level of detail in some aspects of this game is superb. This is just something I wanted to post my remarks about on the forums, because its really throwing a big wrench in what I think is otherwise a solid effort from 343. Thanks.
False, I see all AAs being used to some extent, albeit some moreso than others. Especially where PV is so easily fooled by a Support Package, it makes me laugh because they essentially waste their AA against me. PV is almost exclusively used on small maps (such as in Infinity Slayer, CTF, etc) so I just use Stealth on those maps. Opens up my AA, and only takes away a different Support Package.
It’s not the most powerful AA, it just requires the least strategy to use. Think about it, every other AA will very easily result in your death if you don’t think carefully about how to use it. I just wish it had a drawback of some kind. And no, the fact that other players know when you use it is not an effective drawback.
> The fact that it’s blocked with a Support Package is a pretty big drawback.
No it’s not. A drawback is when the use of the ability instantly makes you weaker in another area. Jetpack costs horizontal mobility, thruster lowers your weapon, autosentry leaves you immobile when you deploy it. THOSE are drawbacks. The ability not affecting a certain player is not a drawback.
I’d like the recoil when hit changed back to zoom out when hit too. When people get used to adjusting to the recoil it’s so easy to just kill if you fired first. Maybe keep the recoil but also un-zoom them so they have to aim on the enemy player’s face again.
Like someone said earlier PV is all about how you use it. I personally have a loadout built around it (my Close Quarters/Inflitration loadout). I use it for when I am about to enter somewhere I know the enemy is turtled up. I will pop the PV and get a quick glimpse of where I need to drop that grenade to scatter them and maybe take a few shields out before I pop in and say “HELLO”. As to the other AA’s I have loadouts with most of the other AA’s being used. My mains are AS and AC though because of my playstyle.
The new zoom feature is annoying. It has zoomed you out when getting shot since Halo 2. Now a sniper can line up a nice one hit kill headshot whilst being fired upon. Talk about making it easier!
Yes, I agree! It compounds the issue with the sniper rifle, too. Takes away what was essentially the one avenue a player had to shake off a skilled enemy sniper with surpressive fire, short of hunkering down and hiding.
For me, i personally do see a variety of AAs used however i see your problem.
I do think however, that your problem will greatly be reduced when the community reaches a level where a lot more people will have armour mods / specializations. When most of the community will start using specializations more collectively, PV will be countered HEAVILY with the use of wetworks.
FYI, Camo DOES counter PV. If you are using Pro Vision and you have line of sight of someone using camo, he appears as a blue outline. When he is behind a wall, he isnt visible at all.
