On Halo 5's Three Game-Changers

Predictions, predictions, predictions…

We already know what two of them are, but the ramifications for how they will impact the Halo universe moving into the next phase of fiction will undoubtedly be immense.

I’m a huge lore fan, and that article really reminded me of how big a deal this is gonna be. Hype train! Also really curious to see why chief and the guardian are working together.

Interesting. I figure the surviving Forerunners themselves could offer some context behind the Domain and warn of the inevitable return of the Flood. It makes me wonder if the Iso-Didact and Chant-to-Green could be alive. Maybe Chant-to-Green may have unknowingly received a brevet mutation from the Librarian, so she could share the memories and experiences of the Librarian in the same way that Bornstellar shades his with the Didact? That would allow for Chakas to finally meet with the Lifeworker.

I’m also wondering if this still ties in with the Ark theory and Mendicant Bias…

For me, I want these new Forerunners to be entirely independent - not weighed down by the weight of their ancestors. I think that would make them a lot more interesting, since Forerunner society was undergoing some radical shifts away from tradition in the final century of their history - Builders and Warrior-Servants were adopting new patterns of mutation to rid themselves of prejudices and distortions, they were rejecting the rigid detachment of the Ecumene at-large and openly displayed emotion in public (which was practically taboo in their society).

I’d like the Forerunners who may eventually turn up in the modern Halo universe to be a reflection of that, while the Prometheans can be grounded more in the traditional side of the Ecumene’s history.

I think Halo 5 will end with the introduction of a new, alien civilization that will serve as new enemies for Humanity and the former Covenant races.
In Halo CE terminals, and in Halo: Broken Circle, it is implied that there are other alien forces out in the Galaxy: the ship that crashed on Installation 04 40,000 years ago, and the ship encountered by a Sangheili shipmaster 3,000 years ago. In Halo Wars, it is implied that the Covenant have other enemies, as Regret was reluctant to send all available ships against the Humans and leave themselves defenseless.
Defenseless against whom?
Another game-changer could be the introduction of Human enemies into the series; the EU makes a big deal about Insurrectionists, as they were the reason the Spartans were created, but we’ve never seen them in-game before. Most Halo games focus on fighting aliens and machines. Fighting other Humans would be a huge leap forward and make the game quite dark in comparison to previous games.
Hell, for all we know, a game-changer could be the discovery of Ancient Humans who somehow survived the Human-Forerunner War, and are now returning to the Galaxy. I’ve always seen Halo as a satire of colonialism, and the introduction of an advanced Human civilization with their primitive UNSC counterparts would likely result in a war of conquest.
This is just speculation, of course. We won’t know until Halo 5 comes out.
