On Challenges and Regicide...

I’ve never been great at making threads, and I’m sure this has been said somewhere but I am simply not reading through hours of posts to see.

First and foremost, challenges. Specifically War Games challenges.

These challenges are added to give a little spice and flavor to your daily dose of Halo 4, yet all they really do is pigeonhole you into playing a specific game-type.

The majority of these challenges are “Win x games of x game-type,” or “Do x many things in x game-type.” I feel this is actually detrimental to the health of the online community, as forcing us to do things we do not want to do in order to “keep up” with everyone else is a little bit, well, off. Especially in Halo 4’s more “broken” game-types.

Yesterday we were stuck with one generic challenge that we could complete in any game-type we wanted, and THREE Regicide challenges. All three for getting regicides in a Regicide match. (Fitting, I know.) When the dailies become a chore… ==> See MMORPG.

Now Regicide itself, for a competitive environment, is simply completely broken as a concept. Some players find it fun, some don’t. I get that. However, at its core, you should never be rewarded for doing badly, and punished for doing well, (Except for the case of the random Overshields the leader gets mid-fight, which is also a little broken.)

I don’t recommend taking the game-type out, or even changing it, as people do like its current, albeit broken form, but simply remove game-type specific challenges in favor of a new list of challenges, ones that can be completed in more than one game mode.

TL;DR - Regicide is too broken as a concept to use as a competitive game-type, and challenges need to let us play more than one game-type that we probably don’t like.

I just noticed it’s three Regicide challenges again today, though two are weekly.

Still, though: Wow.

this is getting annoying… too many regicide challenges, just take out the playlist if no one plays it

Yeah… it’s a bit odd. When trying to achieve the 18 regicides challenge, I was king for 90% of the match… no joke. I was beat by someone who got less kills than me, but he got the bonus kills on me towards the end of the game (worth 35 points each since I was the king for so long…). I got my 18 regicides… but I felt cheated out of that win. If I dominate a match… shouldn’t I win? I shouldn’t have to hold back to let someone else become king…

To me the Regicide is hit and miss. Getting 10 isn’t really hard, just requires some hard work. Plus being the King makes it unfair to those who are superior to the others in the game making it more annoying to get these challenges. I guess 343i is still trying to make people love a un-fun game mode with these challenges.

(Also my weekly challenge reseting doesn’t make it better either)

I don’t think they need to take it out, just don’t make us play it. Or any game-type we don’t want to, at the end of the day.

I like Capture the Flag, but I hate getting that challenge too, because I only play it when my friends are on.

You realize you dont “need” to do the challenges right? Sure its great for a little extra xp but if you like slayer more, play an extra game of slayer and it will make up for the bonus xp you would have got from the challenge. The only thing you 100% need to do challenges for is the achievement, and nobody is saying you have to do that in a week either. You can do the challenges you want to and skip the ones you don’t. Eventually you will get the achievement. I will say this though… when there are multiple challenges on one specific map it makes it easier to complete more at once and get them done faster.

NOTE - I do agree there needs to be more variety in challenges, I just dont think its worth complaining about. There are plenty of other things that need to be fixed.

Nobody is denying here that there are not more pressing issues, and nobody said that we were being forced to do them with a gun to our heads. And while I do believe that you are both right and wrong, (Yes, we can make up for it with an additional 3-5 games, but that doesn’t make it any less of a bummer.) that doesn’t make it any more or less worth bringing attention to.
