I’ve never been great at making threads, and I’m sure this has been said somewhere but I am simply not reading through hours of posts to see.
First and foremost, challenges. Specifically War Games challenges.
These challenges are added to give a little spice and flavor to your daily dose of Halo 4, yet all they really do is pigeonhole you into playing a specific game-type.
The majority of these challenges are “Win x games of x game-type,” or “Do x many things in x game-type.” I feel this is actually detrimental to the health of the online community, as forcing us to do things we do not want to do in order to “keep up” with everyone else is a little bit, well, off. Especially in Halo 4’s more “broken” game-types.
Yesterday we were stuck with one generic challenge that we could complete in any game-type we wanted, and THREE Regicide challenges. All three for getting regicides in a Regicide match. (Fitting, I know.) When the dailies become a chore… ==> See MMORPG.
Now Regicide itself, for a competitive environment, is simply completely broken as a concept. Some players find it fun, some don’t. I get that. However, at its core, you should never be rewarded for doing badly, and punished for doing well, (Except for the case of the random Overshields the leader gets mid-fight, which is also a little broken.)
I don’t recommend taking the game-type out, or even changing it, as people do like its current, albeit broken form, but simply remove game-type specific challenges in favor of a new list of challenges, ones that can be completed in more than one game mode.
TL;DR - Regicide is too broken as a concept to use as a competitive game-type, and challenges need to let us play more than one game-type that we probably don’t like.
