I’m SO tired of seeing this, or seeing “Oh, ur just mad cuz u can’t use the BR 100% of the time! Git good, adapt!”
Since when did the mentality arise that everything in past Halos was underpowered and needed an insane buff? Each gun was situationally useful for different things across Arena, Big Team, Customs, and Campaign.
But somehow H5’s ridiculous buffs to every gun is seen as “balanced”, when laser-accurate BR’s ruin BTB and make being in the open a death wish on some maps; When automatics can hose you down in about a second on small maps, turning Halo into a borderline twitch shooter; When Prometheans are terrible to fight because all their guns home in on you; When you can aim down the sight of every weapon (even a SWORD) and weapon niches start blurring together.
How the hell is that “balanced”?
New idea, just get rid of all the weapons and give us two sticks and a rock
…says the man who never realized what a snooze it was to play a match of nothing but brs in h2 and h3

easy solution reduce the range on automatics ten to 15 percent. The autos are still useful and they stay in their wheelhouse.

Only if we don’t have to share the rock.
But I’m serious, I really don’t like Halo 5’s weapons and I hope this system doesn’t get carried on any further.
Well, let me see…we’ve been asking for viable automatic weapons and a balanced sandbox since…Halo 2? So, yeah, 11 years until Halo 5 launched.
Thanks for playing.
“Situationally useful”…lol…you’re 5 feet from an enemy and they’re not looking at you and probably don’t have thumbs is about the only way those weapons weren’t viable.
B-tee-dubs: autos are finally useful! Smiley emoticon 100 emoticon.

Man. My school had a Halo tournament and people were complaining that they didn’t do a BR start.
H2 and H3, that’s just about the only weapon that was actually useful.
People complain about ‘autos’ for whatever reason, but I strongly feel like 343 has done an incredible job on giving each weapon and feeling of use. I don’t run by the Needler and think it’s jsut a useless weapon. Everything has it’s advantages.
Players are mad because they are losing CQC battles against CQC weapons while they themselves use precision weapons as if it’s supposed to be a dominate-everything-at-every-range-weapon.
Then oddly enough they believe mid-range starts at 10 m away.

The simultaneously held beliefs “sprint is elongating maps” and “autos are too dominant now” make me giggle.
Um no, every weapon is actually usable now you just want a return to the boring BR starts that were only a thing because Bungie sucked at weapon balance.

I’ll give you Halo 2 considering the outright removal of the AR and the pathetic Magnum in that, but the AR in 3 was fine for that game. If you play BR Slayer, of course you’re going to mostly see BR’s when everybody spawns with one.
People didn’t prefer BR Slayer because it was literally the only usable gun in the game (as people claim), but because it was the most CONSISTENT gun in the game. Tight spread, three shots per burst, four bursts to kill.

You’re looking at this strictly from an Arena standpoint, which is the whole reason I wrote this. The AR in Halo 3 and moreso in Reach was a good cleanup weapon when your utility needed to be reloaded, etc. and even if you felt a weapon was unviable against other players, it was probably more suited to fighting against the AI in Campaign/Firefight or when larger spaces and vehicles enter the equation in BTB.

Some of us just feel there shouldn’t be so many CQC weapons to begin with, and it should be possible to beat low-tier weapons with a precision weapon IF you’re good enough.
With everything being so “useful” people die faster and more often. I personally don’t like the randomness of being able to be killed by pretty much anything from anywhere at any time.

Because some people like to get kills without aiming. That’s when you know you built a game for casuals.

We’re gonna share the rock right? No need to be selfish with the big guns.

And we have to share the rock!

"Some of us just feel there shouldn’t be so many CQC weapons to begin with"
That’s a completely different argument and has nothing to do with weapon balance.
"I personally don’t like the randomness of being able to be killed by pretty much anything from anywhere at any time." God forbid guns are deadly… Even so, an SMG or an AR aren’t killing you from anywhere. They are only effective at certain ranges. Even the AR, despite having a somewhat longer range isn’t a realistic choice beyond close range. A semi-competent player can easily out-Magnum it.
Use a CQC weapon in CQC situations. If you both are using the appropriate weapon in the correct scenario, the more skilled player will win.

There’s no need to scope/Smart link when you’re at point-blank range. You’re the guy trying to use a precision weapon in close quarters…

I agree with this completely. A magnum wielding player is going to lose to an ar or smg wielding foe in cqc because that’swhat the weapon is made for.

…Ahaha…I got the reference…
