Older zombie modes compared to Flood mode.

Given that 343 has decided to change most gametypes for Halo 4, I feel the flood gametype wasn’t necessary, or properly thought out.

Zombies frist started off in Halo 2 as a custom game where people would have to change teams once they’d been killed by the green team and only use pistols and shotguns.

In Halo 3 they placed it into social matchmaking, making the game type more popular and due to forge, would see people making maps more designed for zombie gametypes.

This gametype was known as Zombies. It was simple, fun and you really didn’t want to die bucause you’ll have a better chance of getting higher K/D.

=======

Infection in Reach was wasn’t zombies. It was an abomination, AA’s and player traits made it just unplayable but somehow had the most players on it. Infection now became the norm as the “old school” zombies died.

=======

The flood gametype took every leaf out of reach’s book and wiped it in our faces.
making the flood run faster and jump higher was a good ideal, I often used that in my custom gametype. But having AA’s and putting shields on zombies was a bad move. I’ve always hated the way you can’t pick up ammo from your fallen team.

Making the flood look and sound more flood-like was cool, making the Humans bright yellow was obviously a ploy the make them more visable to the new players.

There are no maps designed for Flood what so ever, It was just chucked in to please people and that was it. Just like in Reach.

If you’re going to take something from the older Halo games and bring it in, make it proper and don’t keep addeding stuff to it. Simplicity is fine as far as zombies was concerned.

I think it is fine honestly. At first I was disappointed that I couldn’t just sit around and watch my K/D skyrocket from playing it, but I have started to enjoy the challenge as well as not completely dreading becoming a zombie. Also, some infection gametypes in Halo 3 used zombie shields and no ammo pickup.

This is definitely the most difficult Zombie mode to date on Halo.

I agree with you on that, but like I said, I like it being a challenge. I used to mow down zombies like nothing but now I actually have to work for it. Some people hate that but I kind of like it.

Looks and sounds
FLood is by far the best out of any halo in these terms. I use to play infection and just thought I was playing against players who brought a knife to a gun fight

in flood, I felt I was truly fighting against an undead.

Gameplay
A lot of people say the gameplay in flood is bad because of the floods shields and no head shots, but is that bad? For one it makes them a threat, in older games you just needed a good crouching spot and you would be safe, the infected were nothing more then flys. In old halo game sit was a game to see who would survive, in this, its how long you survive, and its far better for it.

SO all in all
Halo 3-4-reach-2

thats how im arranging my like

I get what you’re saying. But really, I have no problem with it. For example, zombies/flood having abilities; not the greatest choice 343 made, but really didn’t ruin the idea completely. It gives it more of a challenge while making it more fun to be a zombie/flood. When you say maps, I agree. Overall, even though it isn’t my favorite gametype, I can’t say I don’t enjoy it.

I don’t find flood mode to be all that bad. It’s definitely the hardest version of infection I’ve played. If your team doesn’t work together you have no chance of surviving. I think the maps could use some work. Maybe make some forge variants for flood mode that fit the gametype better.

Shields don’t really bother me. In Halo 3 there were some infection variants that gave the infected shields. The shields are there just to make them a little harder to kill. Without shields it would be too easy to kill the flood. They could remove shields and increase their damage resistance or health, but it wouldn’t change anything except how it looks when you shoot them.

Armor Abilities aren’t that bad really. The only thing I can think of that could be annoying is how fast and far the thruster pack moves them. You can use it to boost past someone and kill them without them having much time to react. On the topic of the thruster, has anyone noticed how much it sucks normally? It barely moves you faster than sprinting speed.

What I really don’t like about the Flood gametype is how little you can customize it. You can’t even make the flood hold any weapons.
