Old School player

From the Depths of the almost forgotten, the shutdown servers, and the long gone envy of Professionals. I am here with a simple request that I wish to see life breathed back into Halo of its former self.

I am 22 now and I remember the days of 4 manning on Halo:CE on Hang em High, The days of staying up to late cracking skulls with the sniper on Relic, and 4-shotting kids like a boss on Narrows.

While many of you are probably thinking, “yeah you’re older and you sit and just reminisce about the old days.” But, how ever far this game is in development please don’t go the route of Reach, Call of Duty, or any other “Gain xp for joining a game”. This wasn’t what Halo was about, Halo was about lanning with your friends and who could rock the other team at Capture the Flag.

Halo was about keeping the better kids in the neighborhood off the same team, yet they always tried to convince everyone “at least one match”. This was Halo, the extreme Battle Rifle skills, the head-shotting with the sniper on Simplistic maps with spawn points that actually worked and made the game work.

Please for the sake of our gameplay, Multiplayer is NOT a Single Player experiment, we have no want for ties with the Singleplayer, we have no care for the rocky environment and grassy area of whatever map with rubble all over the ground. Most players loved the simple maps of Turf, Warlock, Lockout, Zanzibar, Elongation, Midship.

Those maps are what made my competitive experience even better, proportionally made maps. Save your great artistic talents for the Singleplayer and let the competitivly creative talents emerge from you developers for the multiplayer where Halo belongs to be #1 again.

I loved Halo, and I want to love Halo again.

inb4 China wants their wall back.

I’m afraid China would rather not have their wall back. It doesn’t fit in their country anymore. This wall would probably be a tight fit in the Pacific Ocean.

LOL, couldn’t resist.

I agree with you very much, sir. All the way up through 3 the game wasn’t a complicated game. The maps were very simple, yet perfect for what Halo is. Now, saying the game was simple, doesn’t mean it took skill. Hell, it took a lot more skill than Call of Duty does, a lot more than a lot of games actually. This game needs to have maps that are simple like in the old days, not the garbage Bungie us with Reach. Most of the maps they gave us were remakes of old ones in FORGE for Pete’s sake! I at least expected a re-skin, not just a non-proportional remake of the original map.

I also agree with you 100% on the ‘gaining XP for joining a game’ part. Halo for the most part shouldn’t be an XP based game. Like Halo 2 and 3, we need a TrueSkill rank system again, something that actually shows how good the player is, not a generalization of how much time the players have put into the game.

I am glad I’m not the only one out there who believes we need simplicity back in the Halo series.

Thank you sir.

I agree 100%, honestly, Bungie could (and should have) spent less time putting kill barriers in Campaign and actually make decent non forge world/ campaign remakes. I loved Halo 2’s original maps like Turf, Terminal, Headlong, Relic, Waterworks, etc because of not only there intense battle scenes, but because they were original and each had something special to them that made them fun for the thousandth time being played- something Reach’s maps very much lack.

Halo has always been so simple that true skill shines through every player. Simple maps + less aim-assist = Halo again

Thanks for the agreements. Glad to see there are players that understand.

Everything needs to be removed, AAs “Perks”, bloom, Rating. All of it needs to be gone.

Halo was the inventor of the Online console FPS realm, it set standards that would be followed by other FPS games, it shouldn’t be the other way around where Halo follows Call of Duty. I use to stay up and watch MLG videos all night on youtube and got excited for the next Tournament, where true competition existed. Halo contained everything for competition.

Static Shots (no bloom)
Balanced Map play; Some maps like Lockout with BR tower had strong points that needed the team to overcome and capture the key point.
Key weapons Battle Rifle, Sniper rifle, Rocket Launcher, Sword: Simple straight forward weapons that created the solid gameplay needed for competitive play.

Competitive play is not always what the socials want, and I completely understand that, but with competition fun is achieved by the tense close match battles that make you frustrated and ecstatic. Those are what bring you back to playing that next match.

Ranking needs to be like how it use to be. 50. 50 was what everyone knew that was the holy grail of the elite online combatants. Though there are cheaters, boosters, etc… the true players of Halo know who each other are and the community exists within. Those who achieved 50 legit could actually appreciate something of their skill.

I hope this gets checked out by some member of the dev team and taken greatly into consideration. Please restore Halo!

^This.

We do need a real ranking system again, something that if someone is a 50, or in any general vicinity of it, players will know they are about to get -Yoinked!- up. I’m not saying make it impossible to get 50, but maybe a little harder than Halo 3 did? Seemed like anyone could be a 50 on there… Also maybe no more EXP would be great, even exclude the way Halo 3 did it and go back to Halo 2’s simple 1-50 SKILL ranks.

DEVS CHECK THIS THREAD OUT!

I completely agree, let’s get a push for this thread and keep it alive! I honestly think they should use H2’s multiplayer(not CE’s) as a template, I know this is heresy for some people but H2’s multiplayer was legendary. Much better than the games we have today, im also a bit of an older gamer, a year younger than you at 21… but I still remember very clearly how good H2 is and when I boot it up and LAN it with my friends it’s still an incredible experience.

EDIT: Also, this is truly the time when we need to push and tell 343 what type of MP we want, and what we really don’t want(The bad elements from H3-BR Spread, and pretty much everything from Reach) because in the coming months they’re going to be pretty much set on multiplayer both conceptually and it’s going to be programmed in and at that point they have to move forward to get the game out in time.

Thank you for the good words

I’ve watched a few videos of 343 saying they know what Halo was about and keeping it at its roots, but I wish I could be secured on those words.

343 Help produce Reach and I believe ODST, I like Reach’s engine with the character design and things, but I wish for the feel of Halo to come back. If I were a developer I would sit down and play Halo CE through Halo 3 to get what made those games all Number 1. Then I would proceed to this one and see if it feels the same.

That’s what would make it a success!
