I recently replayed halo 1,2, and 3 and I really like the old gameplay a lot more than halo 4 and 5. I have been on the fence for whether I liked sprint or not and all the new features, but now that I’ve replayed the golden days of halo I have realized that I enjoy the old type of gameplay more. On another note the art style and how everything looked is sooooo much better in halo 1,2, and 3. Comparing the new and old halo’s the old halos just look better. What do you think?
i dont think sprint is going away in in any new halos . but if 343 remasters old halo games again i’m pretty sure they wouldn’t add sprint.
Ironically I’m the first person to say that Halo 5 is awash in unnecessary motion mechanics and I’m also the first person to say that Old Halo is too slow and stodgy. I guess there’s just no pleasing some people.
On the subject of art style: I’m always surprised at this debate. For me the different Halos are like different paintings hanging in a museum. Sure, I might like one better than another, but I’m still completely and utterly blown away by the brilliance of each of them. I would never want all my Halos to look exactly the same any more than I’d want to visit an art museum that displayed paintings by only one artist. There’s no problem in having a preference - just don’t let a preference become an intolerance for everything else.

Fair enough. What would you think of a Halo game with a higher base speed and fov compared to the original trilogy but without all the extra movement mechanics of five?
And I agree with the op to a certain extent. I prefer the artstyle of the original halo games and reach over that of Halo 5s. Feels much more grounded and lifelike. And I would say I prefer the gameplay of the originals as well except for maybe Halo 2. Something about the multiplayer in that game just never sat well with me.

omg if 343 added sprint to halo 3 anniversary…
I agree completely. It didn’t take much of the nu-Halo gameplay for me to be completely repulsed by it. Classic Halo plays so much better than the stuff being put out now. I’ve finally hit my breaking point though. I will never buy another Halo game that features a sprinting mechanic. Sadly, like TXSBears pointed out, that mechanic is probably going to continue getting forced into the games. This means that 343 has lost a customer. They’ve driven away yet another fan that was with the franchise since the very beginning.
I wonder how long the franchise will survive if they keep driving away its fans without bringing in enough new ones to compensate.
That new stuff was brought in to help sell halo, all they had to do was just make a new story line and better graphics, it would have been fine

> Was it the map design or weapon sandbox? Halo 2 is considered by most classic players to be the fastest out of Bungie’s Halo games.
Weapon sandbox mainly the BR with its ridiculous amounts of bullet magnetism and ease of use compared to the CE pistol. The need to dual wield automatics to have them even be relevant. I don’t dislike the H2 multiplayer its just that I prefer that of Halo 3 and especially CE over it, at least when I play mcc.

I can understand the concept of substituting a higher base speed for a two speed system if we’re talking exclusively about 4v4 game types. I think it could work well there. As a guy who plays exclusively in whatever are the biggest available environments, currently Warzone, there simply is no way to make that game play work without sprint unless you litter the maps with even more man cannons, vehicles, and cover. These things could be done, but I still feel that altering the maps to remove sprint is completely ignoring the effects of these alterations on vehicular game play and on long-range weapon game play - two things that are critical to the Warzone experience.
I’m certainly not the first person to suggest that small team game play be built around Old Halo mechanics and big team play be built around New Halo mechanics. And I don’t want to suggest that I believe this is the way forward. I believe that it’s one possible way forward, albeit a way that’s fraught with a whole new set of problems. Continuity and consistency, to name just two. The only thing we can be sure of is that whatever path they ultimately choose they will disappoint a lot of people.
And again on art style: I can think of countless examples of places and objects from the original games that I would not call grounded or lifelike, but it is subjective and I also understand that we’re speaking relative to the later games. I happen to prefer the later games, but my preferences largely correspond to the increased detail and resolution of better hardware. I loved the look and feel of CE, but looking at it now all I can see is everything they had to leave out and every corner they had to cut because the original xbox had the computing power of a calculator. It’s beautiful, but it’s artificial. Every new game looks better to me because it looks more detailed. As far as whether or not the door knobs in CE had a more realistic design I just don’t care because no matter how good the design may have been they were still pixelated and looked ultimately like a low-res cartoon of whatever it was they were supposed to be. Given the technology how could it have been any other way?
Halo’s evolution from Bungie to 343i is almost akin to Tony Stark’s armor through the years.
It started slow, then it got better(?), stronger, and faster.

I think it’s more similar to Adam Sandler’s career.
The franchise started off strong with a handful of great releases and everybody loved it. Then, it took a nosedive into the realm of “WTF”. And now, it’s so bad that it’s practically a parody of itself. It can’t release anything new on its own merit and has to rely on the strengths of all its buddies to get by.
I actually enjoy Halo 4&5 gameplay more. I get frustrated with how slow old Halo’s play. Don’t get me wrong i still love them i just think the new gameplay is more fun.
Give me the newer weapon sandbox and movement capabilities. Going back to the old, everything feels slow and unresponsive.
