Old Halo VS New

I’ve been a huge Halo fan for a while, and I really like Halo 5. But I honestly feel that after Halo Reach, less and less people really care about playing the series.

Bungie Halos seemed to still be praised even by people who even play the new games (Halo 4 & Halo 5). Just wanted to know if this was fact or fiction.

Oh boy, someone is going to come in screaming about nostalgia goggles and trashing the previous games, aren’t they. It’s always a competition on the forums, it’s not just “I like Halo (x) more”, somebody always has to make some stupid derogatory comment to put someone who likes something else down. Pisses me off.

Anyway, I prefer previous Halo games. More content, nicer art style, better sound design, and honestly just a more inviting game overall. As an experience, I think the first three games will remain some of the best games I’ve ever played. Does that make Halo 5 bad? Absolutely not, I just prefer the older games.

Whether it’s fact or fiction that people still praise Bungies Halo games? I’d say most people who have played them do, from what I’ve seen. There are many who prefer the newer games as well.

I think it is just a situation where the series has been around for a while. I don’t see many new gamers getting pulled in by the new series. Most of the players I know are older and have spent time in the previous installments. So, the series as a whole may just be losing steam. Even with the changes, at its core, it is still the same game, just with a few new wrinkles like Warzone and the REQ system. So, everyone compares to the earlier installments and gripes about days gone by because they can’t handle the changes. Meanwhile, there aren’t enough new players to speak up and support the improvements.

I will get shouted down for this that only COD is the same thing over and over, but so is Halo. It just has more of a skill gap than COD.

In my opinion, those changes you outlined are fine. It’s the gameplay mechanics being changed that keep upsetting people. Sprinting gets most of the hate because it has the biggest impact on the gameplay, but we can’t forget about clamber and thrusters. All of those things break what used to be the core Halo experience.

I can see this I suppose. I still feel like it is the same at its core though. Thoughtful, deliberate action to move to a tactical position and destroy the enemy. The ability to sprint, boost, and clamber provides new avenues for more strategies, but I don’t see them as game breaking. But, I have played enough other games that maybe they are just all running together to me…

I totally agree with you on this one. The older games just feel like a halo game. The realistic and colour shemes of the older games are just more appealing than halo 5 over the top glossy art style. I really dont like the art style in the new halo games. I also hate the customization in halo 4 and 5. The stupid repeatitive helmets and armour with different lining is really annoying. If your going to do that do it how halo reach did it you click on Mark v and a bunch of other options in style pop up. Its a much sleeker design in the HUB. Plus i hate the look of spartan 4s they dont feel as badass to me as the spartan 2s or 3s. In halo reach you could tell who was a spartan 2 and 3. Gorge (i believe that was his name) could easily be seen as the spartan 2 because of how much bigger he was compared to the other like emile, kat, etc. I want to play as spartan 2s or 3s in multiplayer they have much better look to them. I really hated how the spartan 4s in halo 5s campaign were as tall as master chief, that makes no sense master chief is suppose be a tower, but for some reason locke is his height. (i hated locke as a character, i would rather of had buck as the leader) The design of the spartans in the newer games is horrible they dont feel like they belong in the human army. The halo reach armour looked like they were made by humans and that fit perfectly. This new style really annoys me.

But the game has gotten somethings right. I think the new abilities is a step in the right direction. The game needs to innovate and this balance in abilities is perfect. I also thing the sound design in the new halo games is better, but the music score is far better in the older games.

I do agree that the Bungie Halos are classics. They feel like Halo, gameplay and art style wise. Also the Story behind the original SIIs & SIIIs are much more interesting than the SIVs.

I think I got here before all of the “Halo needs to evolve and if you don’t like it just play MCC even though it is broken” kids.

But if you ask me, I prefer the older Halo games.

Yeah, 343 is not bungee I know this , and three for three is trying to make a mark on the franchise by making their own game and they can be commendable. , However only time will give us perspective to tell and anniversary editions which games more popular among the masses of players. Yeah iPhone to category where I like all the customization storyline of Reach but I also respect the opinions of the other players and their choices .

I’m a Halo 3 kid at heart, never played CE or H2 in their prime. That being said, after playing the MCC, I understand why people like them so much. They are undoubtedly a different experience than H4/5, but that’s because it’s a different company making it. If H5 didn’t have the Halo tag, no one would complain about it being a “bad” game just because “it ruins what halo used to be.” It can be good and have a different feel to it.

HCE/2/3 were slower, methodical, and bare bones. They were simpler times. H4/5 have just made it a bit more complex. H4 went the ultra casual route, and it didn’t pay off. H5 has done a complete 180 and is trying to go back to the MLG days of H2/3, without having much in terms of casual. Once they add social playlists to the game it will be right up there with the other games for me in terms of MP. It’s more complex, but fun, fast, and the gunplay feels like halo. That being said, you aren’t going to get that same feeling from 3 shotting someone in CE, BXRing someone in H2c, or flying across the man cannons on narrows and sniping someone in H3. It’s a different game, but it’s solid in it’s own way.

the new feel to halo is good, always need to add to games but the old halos are the best IMO

Can never beat Halo 3 but I love this new req system and war zone

I will always love the older Halo games especially H3, however I have to be honest when I say that I prefer the newer Halo games and Halo 5 is my top favorite. The stories are much more engaging and exciting while the multiplayer is the most fun I had in any game. This is all MY OPINION though.

I’m not sure what nostalgia goggles is supposed to mean, but alot of people seem to think H5 is full of problems, like they forget that the originals had plenty of their own.

They took out our campaign theatre, post-game medals, BR Slayer 4v4, lobby chatty. So many good featurse of Halo 3 are missing. I just hate those creative directors.
