Old and New Can Exist Together in Halo 4.

So much fighting lately over this and that and the other thing. Will Halo 4 be like Reach, or the trilogy? Will it go back to Halo’s roots or push the genre in a different direction? These questions have produced - to be quite honest - almost violent arguments and fights on this forum. It’s gotta stop. Why? Because it is HERP DERP easy to fix this problem.

All Halo 4 needs to do is do exactly what Halo: Reach didn’t: Give the players a Classic playlist from DAY 1.

I think it’s fairly obvious that 343 is going to try some new things with Halo 4. I’t also fairly obvious that some Halo purists will absolutely hate these changes. The simplest solution is to produce a “Classic” set of gametypes that are No Bloom, Guns, Grenades, and Melee. Nothing else. Just like classic Halo.

All it takes is one playlist: A grab bag of 4v4 Slayer and Objective. Done. Old hardcore Halo fans now have a place to play.

The best part about this is that 343 can get some real, immediate feedback based on playlist population. If the population gravitates towards the Classic, then they can roll back their updates. If the population gravitates towards the new stuff, then they keep going with the new stuff.

So can we stop fighting, please? This is an EASY problem with an EASY solution.

Remember folks: Majority Rules; Minority Rights.

I totally agree with you. But…

Pardon me if I sound like a YOINK-Hole…

THE SANGHEILI MADE IT!!! Suck on that Trollers!!!

There should be Classic and Reach. The playlist Reach should have Loadouts. No other changes. There’s probably a better name for this like Class Slayer, maybe even change the definition of Squad gametypes to mean gametypes with Loadouts, because it’s like a squad of Spartans with different roles. I don’t know. But I like options.

My thoughts exactly. I suggested this very same thing in the Reach BETA forums when they were up.

Whatever cutting edge, innovative gameplay 343 has up their sleeves is all well and good, but classic should always be a staple in the playlist line up, just as swat, snipers, living dead and all the rest have become.

People like different things and variety is the spice of life. Sometimes I’m in the mood for some ctf, other times I want just straight up old school classic slayer. No bloom, bleedthrough, and power ups on the map.

I have never been against a playlist or a set of playlists set to the rules that the competitive players prefer. I had hoped that Arena would become that, and that with the removal of the Rating System that more competitive focused playlists could have been added to the Arena hopper.

What Halo 4 should do that Reach failed at.

  • No armour abilities

  • Refined Armour Permutation unlock system

  • No film grain

  • bring back gorgeous landscapes

  • Real emotion and power

  • A worthwhile, highly re-playable campaign

  • A reworked Fire-fight

  • A Flood firefight mode

  • Bring back equipment

  • Have more variation in maps

  • Give me my Assault Rifle from the good old days.

some good points but things like what play lists it will have isnt the main priority imo, when asking is halo 4 gonna go back to the original roots or take on the halo reach style it should be referring to the campaign, because how the game play, and style of the campaign funtions are my main thoughts,

examples

Original halo roots:

-high jumping, kinda like the feel of low gravity.
-equipment (power trainer, shield generator etc).
-having original halo style weapons as well as having the new ones they are creating.
-Soundtracks, mysterious, eary and kinda sad.

Halo reach style:

-Low jumping, more of a heavy feel to it.
-keeping armor abilities.
-keeping the new weapons that featured in reach.
-soundtracks, more serious and in the zone.

If Halo 4 only has one playlist that actually plays like Halo it would be a big disappointment.

I disagree. The default gameplay should be “classic”. Loadouts should be moved into their own non-default playlist.

See, this is called being INTENTIONALLY OBSTRUCTIONIST.

You get Classic Halo and the franchise moving forward, satisfying everyone, but instead you chose to say “No, everyone is wrong, do it my way”.

Halo 4 should play like Halo 4.

Source please?

Halo 3 had the best music I think, Finish the FIght and some other songs were very cheerful and I liked it.

I think it would be good to have one or more playlists classic then the other ones are the new stuff since if we don’t test out new ideas we will never know if they are good ideas.

> Nope. You can’t just come in and shove the classic Halo fans into a little corner and say it’s fair. If Halo 4 even tries this, I’m not buying a Halo game ever again. MM MUST be classic gameplay, in every single playlist. If not, I hope 343 enjoys watching their game die ten times as fast as Reach.
>
> Frankly, if you are offended by 343 giving the classic Halo fans what they’ve been patiently waiting for, then you can Yoink! and play another game. Halo needs to go back to its roots.
>
> That’s not to say that I’m against new additions, but if 343 wants to “Innovate,” do it in the same way that Halo 3 built on Halo 2. Add in new gametypes, FF, Theater, Forge, etc, but DO NOT mess with the gameplay that has driven this franchise for 10 years.

Over Dramatic to the max.

> How the hell is that dramatic?

That’s why it’s over dramatic.

That and the Fact he doesn’t even Address that Halo 3 started leaning Away from the Standard Gameplay. Too many weapons that do the same thing, Weapons not having purposed roles as they should, Weapons being too strong or too weak, Over Dependance on The Battle Rifle, Vehicle combat winding down, etc.

MP wise Halo died at Halo 2.

If there are Classic settings, they should be organized into the following playlists for maximum enjoyment:

4v4 Team Slayer and Objective
8v8 Team Slayer and Objective
8 player FFA Slayer and Objective
