For all we know, since Rakshasa is basically just thrown together stuff anyway, he could have pieced together a new suit out of what he had left of his old one and gone Lone Wolf.
There is also dialogue stating his death from the Glibnub.

From the dialogue, it sounds like Locke was decapitated, given how Glibnub uses the term of “get a-head” as apun and then remarks on his own “gallows humor”
No way of coming back from that.
EDIT -
Unless of course, Forerunner tech somehow resurrects him.
Kinda like how Guilty Spark lives on now in a Promethean Soldier body.
Or it could be head-games (no pun intended) since they could be lying- which is a psychological warfare tactic they’d likely employ in an attempt to shake his resolve. I mean it’s Chief so of course it doesn’t work but if my and most other folk’s playthroughs of Infinite are any evidence they didn’t know who they were messing with.
X3 Ugh, I must always remember that Guilty Spark got a redemption arc and limbs. I accept it, but he’s not invited to my birthday party after what happened to Johnson.
Could be.
But the fact that MJOLNIR Armor is far less effective without the helmet, and he is missing his breast-plate; it implies that Locke encountered Hyperius and then lost the fight against him. Followed by execution and then Hyperius takes Locke’s armor as a trophy.
Honestly perfect team to me is just not Halo 5’s team.
Would have much rather seen Miller, Dalton, and Palmer being lead by Rosenda A344. Have Jun literally replace Palmers old role and I’d actually have cared somewhat about the death fake-out.
343 Industries just HAD to give a redemption arc to the character they numbered their studio after. I chock that up to being a PR stunt more than anything. After all, naming your company after a back-stabber doesn’t go over well.
What death fake-out?
Lost the fight? Totally. Dead? We still don’t know, therefore there’s the chance he could return. All you gotta do is write it that way, and do so well and in a thoughtful cool way instead of just “nah he’s fine.”
Maybe he was tortured for information for weeks but wouldn’t let up and slipped away when he found an opportunity or spent months learning about a particular flaw in his prison he’d work his way out of Andy Dufresne style.
You know, make a story out of it, something interesting for him to overcome that also shows his resolve as a character and as a capable soldier. Even if it’s not this idea, it is possible if you think about a good and natural way to write it.
Palmer crashing the pelican at the end of sunaion.
Like the only scene where locke emotes in the slightest.
But she’s in the end scene with Arby and everyone else when Halsey walks up to Chief
Palmer is alive.
She was on board the UNSC Infinity during the brief battle that ensued in the prologue of Halo Infinite.
She is in the FOB Audiologs that describe some of the events as the UNSC Infinity was being defeated.
Yeah, that was supposed to be a big reveal.
Nobody cared enough about the story to actually be concerned with that.
Like I said: replace her with Jun and people would have actually found it noteworthy.
This is true, I dunno if it counts as a fake out tho. Tho if it was supposed to be one, then I at least agree it’s lame.
Why? No, actually please, tell me why.
I don’t think it was a fakeout as much as it was supposed to be just Locke showing that he is concerned about the well being of Palmer, showing that he is not just cardboard and ONI.
Pilot isn’t cutting it and there’s a vacancy. Plus I am saying what 343 might do. I didn’t say they should do these things.
But no. It’s more likely they do the other thing I mentioned.
Although, that is up in the air because 343 is being weird with this Halo 5 retcon. Just did a preview on Rubicon Protocal and it’s a lot of this. They seem to be talking around the events of Halo 5 even though they’re really important to what’s going on.
It makes analysing events and characters really difficult. Is Earth not being discussed meant to imply there’s no issue or is it because the characters are too busy killing Brutes to discuss this? So with Locke, you’d risk it coming out of nowhere if he’s very hostile to the Weapon because they won’t have established the context behind that and more importantly people are putting this in the rear view mirror.
well yeah he’s - he’s a different type of character.
I have a post that is stuck in pending explaining the differences between the characters.
Edit - Since I can post in this, I wonder if I can explain my statement here by copy-pasting?
Fernando Esparza isn’t meant to be like Johnson.
In a Three-Perspective-Triad structure, he is meant to be the voice of Pessimism, nervous and careful.
Meanwhile The Weapon is supposed to be the voice of Optimizim, her youth making her naive and innocent.
And then John is the voice of Pragmatism, who thanks to his experience is able to assess the opposition and find a possible outcome to focus on.
Johnson was the voice of Bold Charisma, a character who served as both a leader and a comedic relief character.
We already know how 343 is trying to fill in the gap of Johnson’s character - Spartan Laurette Agrenya.
They realized that fans didn’t receive Sarah Palmer’s attitude of no-nonsense.
So they introduce a character who is in a leadership role but allows those under her command to crack some jokes on occasion. Hence why they introduced her character with her pilot cracking a joke, and her response was “What did I tell you about being funny?” and his response of “Keep doing it?” shows that Agryna is meant to be a similar character to Johnson.
A person in a leadership position who is a leader on the field (hopefully Agryna gets an opportunity to show this with either another Season Cutscene OR BETTER YET in a DLC mini-campaign starring her ) and not that much of a strict personality on their subordinates.
Good.
An hour of waiting wasted for some reason because the system auto-flagged my response for approval.
This forum’s automated systems are downright frustrating. I miss old waypoint.
Have all the rest die except for Buck (he is the only good character out of the bunch), have a campaign dlc with him where he is having to deal with the loss of all his comrades past and present.
