i don’t play many modern games, cause any game made in the modern age made by AAA companies are usually the worst, but the Modern Warfare reboot literally had you earning the right to have a gun in their battlepass. what game has done better battlepass systems? the entire system of the battlepass is based on making you feel an obligation to play the game. at least Halo lets me complete it at my own pace, you can complete it within a years time, it isnt a timed thing like literally every other one. that is the problem with Doom Eternal’s battlepass, even free it makes me hate playing the game.
so seriously, enlighten me how 343 made an outrageously bad system when it literally looks like a carbon copy of all other systems. so idiotic.
So basically I’ve determined people are angry because the old colour pallette system has gone and they want more shoulder pads.
For $10 you get as many helmets as you did in H3 and almost as many helmets as you did in Reach (the alleged holy grail of customisation). More visors and a similar amount of armour effects. By the time you’ve had 3-4 battle passes you probably will have more customisation for the price of Reach than you ever did before. Factor in all those free challenge swaps and people will probably have a healthy amount of free stuff each week too as well as from from events.
I think people are just angry because they have to pay $10 on a free game and then actually play the game to unlock stuff. It seems people may prefer to not have a free game and not have to play the game to unlock things or do it through “skill” instead by looking up YouTube guides on how to find the IWHBYD skull.
I’ve played many free to play games and this one is no more “predatory” or poorly monetised than the rest. My only note would be to give a basic colour wheel for everyone, then still sell the armour coatings as premium coatings as they look much better imo but that still pleases everyone who just wants basic colours. No-one should have to pay for a standard blue skin on any armour core. It would be easy to implement too because it’s basic. The other would be to stop selling Kits. It’s cheeky. Just sell the kit and let the player have the full components to use as they wish. Prices in the store probably need adjusting too, can’t imagine they sold many of that 1,000 pineapple bundle.
CoD Cold war and a underrated game… Super Animal Royal. best BPs
in SAR you earned fair free cosmetics, and even the in game currency, enough to even buy the BP. despite being a FREE GAME, run by a smaller team, yet is still getting love
The challenge system alone has encouraged a quitter mentality so that players can be as efficient as they can when it comes to progression, no other game has this issue, mostly because no other game makes it to where you need a flag or oddball, but then the luck to get those gamemodes.
This is before we mention that there’s no way to optimize your challenges, I have 13 challenges but only access to 4? Why? Why can I not put all of my oddball or CTF challenges together? Why are they not all unlocked off the get-go? Apex and Gears, don’t do this, For Honor allows you to pick your challenges, Vigor makes your challenges generic enough that you can do them anywhere, Halo is very much not a carbon copy in this regard or people wouldn’t be so vocal about it.
XP progression gets less rewarding the more you play, which doesn’t feel good, to have the game slowly punish you more and more because you like it, up until you literally need to play 20 games to level up regardless of what you do.
Why would you make a system less rewarding the more you play? WoW had this issue before, players don’t like feeling punished, so don’t do it, encourage the behaviors you do want to see.
The system doesn’t give you XP for your experiences, a person who gets a Killionare gets the same XP as the dude who was XP farming in the back, for players who solely wish to progress the BP, there’s no actual incentive to put in effort, or even play really.
Hopefully this will be enlightening enough for you to understand why people are upset.
Oh they all work. But for whom? They’re all outrageously bad. It just so happens that 343’s is the least bad. But that’s not sayin much. It’s a predatory system, full stop.
They all work a lot better, for nearly everyone, 343 has the worst. For Honor you can stop playing for weeks, months, and easily make up lost time, Apex allows you to pool challenges from prior weeks, gears gives you generous XP boost and challenges that can level up 2 ranks for just 1 challenge completed. Even Rocket league has a better implementation of a battle pass.
Nothing about Halo infinites BP is predatory (I won’t say the same for the store), it literally just sucks the worst compared to every other game.
Looking up a campaign skull guide doesn’t get you your Vidmasters for Recon or 1000G for the Security helmet and Katana. Nobody asked for a F2P multiplayer; I’d gladly pay $80 for a Halo Infinite that releases on December 8th with Forge, customs, theater, multiplayer, campaign, and sans these predatory--Yoink!- microtransactions and a proper color system.
