Ok. We need to really look at this "Free DLC"

I get on my Xbox tonight, go into Warzone for the update pack and am greeted with… a $14.99 (+tax) pack for the new “free DLC” reqs. oh or I cpuld spend 120000 req points, which would take how long? I love how the pack even says that you can buy 4 to get the complete set of permanent unlocks. Gee thanks 343, your “free DLC” just became the price of a whole new game just to guarantee a couple pieces of armor and the new loadouts. Yea I heard how the micro transactions fund the DLC ect. ect ect. But at this point, a $50 season pass would have gotten me all this stuff for cheaper than your asking me for it now. But hey thanks for the one map. Seriously 343, these updates are pathetic and the community needs to stop praising you just because you call it “free”.

No one is forcing you to buy the pack.

or you could just get them in standard packs.

I’m really worried that you think Halo 3’s DLC is only 7 maps total.

Are you referring to the 6 that were shipped as part of ODST? They were not part of the year 1 DLC, releasing a full 2 years after the game. They count as ODST content. Same with the Reach maps shipped with CEA.

whoops double post

It doesn’t take that long to grind up a few hundred thousand REQ points, assuming you’re playing Warzone on a frequent basis. Prior to the update I was happily sat on 640k, and that was from a little under a week and a halfs worth of nightly Warzone grinding with my company.

RP/XP acquisition comes faster if you’re playing with other people; moreso if you’re coring the opposition in four to six minute games.

Mythic 1 came out in spring of 2009. Mythic II was part of ODST, and standalone released later.

All those DLCs are very much part of the main game.

For what it’s worth as well - both Reach and 3 had less multiplayer maps at launch (could be argued with forged maps), but much more variety and options (forge at launch, customs at launch, every gametype at the time at launch). And it was the good variety - not just a fries skin for an assault rifle or 15 different warthog variants (there really only need to be 4).

Thats still 17 months after release. Its not really fair to take at 17-24 months of content and compare it to 6 or 7 months of content. I was comparing content released as DLC in the first year after release and that is not delivered as part of another game.

Anything for more cash, I saw that to and laughed threw in doom lol it’s been months and I haven’t had one good experience. No mics, waypoint is now a drama page forced upon us . Teammates kill for power weapons. No competetive playlists even doubles after all these months … Yea think half community is just waiting for new games to drop. Love halo but the direction… Idk I just feel like they want to lose the game competetive wise and be another game anyone can pick up hit some buttons and get better lol but that’s my opinion and many others I’ve seen

Most other companies would’ve charged us $10 or $15 for each update 343 has given us.

I mean, I understand that you are now, but that wasn’t really originally stated so you can see why I was pointing it out.

Free content is nice for sure. I think there needs to be a recognition of quality over quantity however, as well as more content at launch. 343 is capable of putting the pieces together, it just all depends when that happens.

I appreciate that its free, but when %90 of the free update is locked behind a pay/chance wall gets old. All of the new reqs are usually ultra rare to legendary, meaning if you do by chance get a new vehicle card, you will probably get 1-3, and once their gone its gone. I really wish that in Warzone you could build a replenishing load-out “deck” of cards to take into the fight, that way yes they can still have their micro transactions but at least when I get that rare req I can add it to the deck and getting more only allows more options. With the system the way it is, even when I get the cards I don’t want to use them in fear it will be immediately destroyed. If it really only takes a month to create these, which is nice, keeps the game fresh, why does the special pack have to be $14.99, I would prefer it if for a limited time it just complimented the gold pack at 10000 points. I commend the game for including so much at launch, especially when compared to Battlefront and COD. But I am really missing halo 4 where you unlocked the new pieces by playing and getting better.

It’s optional for people who don’t want to wait. No one is forcing you. Tired of this topic coming up. It’s not like it’s a pay to win game.

Well, most of us do wish we could unlock armor via requirement not chance, but honestly if they can start making quality maps to dole out for free as long people keep buying REQ packs, I’m all for it. It really sucks segregating the player base from DLC maps to Base maps, and the only other way to make income is through a paywall. I’m not saying it’s the best of both worlds but it is a damn good attempt at it.

I’m all for paying for quality DLC. I agree 343 did a great job releasing halo 5, it had a full campaign, classic multiplayer and the new warzone mode for people who want to try something new. But with every update it seems to make the game more about the micro transactions. I get it, I know I don’t have to buy the pack. And since I won’t it makes the free update worthless. Its annoying when your favorite part of the game is constantly locked behind a grinding/pay wall. Id have gladly payed for a $20-40 season pass for this content and had no req system, because the updates have good stuff.

It is free. You don’t have to buy the pack all it does is guarantee you’ll get those items.

OP, thinking is hard, I get it. But let’s work through this, together.

  1. You downloaded the update, that includes the map and game mode and access to the armors and things, right? Were you charged money for obtaining the download? No? Great!

Conclusion: FREE DLC!

  1. All the unlockable things in the update, can you get them by purchasing using in-game currency? Without ever having to spend actual money? Yes? Great!

Conclusion: FREE DLC!

Need any help on either of those points?

“I don’t want to pay money to get the things, but I would gladly pay money to get the things.” If you just want to say you think it costs too much the way it’s set up, just say it. Your arguments defeat each other.

The DLC’s are NOT free in any sense of the word. They require one to either pay money for REQ points or invest TIME in unlocking them. I’m an adult with a job, responsibilities and bills- and anyone who else is an adult knows that TIME is money. So these DLC’s are NOT free and definitely not worth buying either. I’m also disappointed in the direction Halo is going- call me a troll for criticizing 343 for their lack of content in these DLC’s, that’s fine but I’d rather pay money and get content I care about rather than new skins for weapons, armor, and recycled maps.
