Ok let's have this awkward talk (Red Flags)

I don’t want to be pessimistic, I’m very excited about Halo Infinite but sometimes we have to have this kind of awkward talk, lately we’ve seen a lot of red flags about the game:

  • No Forge at launch
  • No Co-op at launch
  • No Assassinations at launch
  • Challenge Progression (Solution here)
  • No Legendary Edition yet
  • No Playable Elites
They have told us that it is a “Spiritual Reboot” well, I would care to know if:
  • Are they going to use the original Halo theme? (Why wasn’t Marty included? Don’t get me wrong, current music is amazing.)
  • Will there be a Warthog Run mission?
I don’t want them to delay the game, the date seems perfect to me but I would like them to take all this into account. If bringing Joe Staten helped the game a lot, why don’t you bring in more people of the original team? Marcus Lehto and others continue to love Halo. It will be 10 years of content, so I imagine they will work on all this.
343 Industries is a great team and I appreciate all the work they are doing for Halo, so I expect a lot from them, I know it’s not easy, especially in these difficult times, but sometimes we have to have these awkward conversations. This is just my opinion, I want you to know that I will still buy Halo Infinite at launch.
I really hope that there will be a big event for the 20th Anniversary in November and they shut our mouths, surprise us and increase the hype.

Do people even really play as Elites?

Honestly, Infinite has progressively looked less and less appealing to me personally because of this new information. Now, I’m a hardcore Halo fan so I’m still getting the game, but my excitement to play has taken a blow. I appreciate them telling us what’s going on, but we need to know what is going to be available at launch. No more negative surprises. Please.
Also, you didn’t mention:
Armor coatings removing two color system.
Emblems being dumbed down again.
No XP per match completion.
MTX in our faces everywhere.
As for getting people who worked on the old games to come in and assist, that would be cool. Lehto is still cooking up Halo related content (look at his Twitter).
How likely it is that they will return, is beyond our knowledge.
I am still excited, just less so. I really want to see this game successful, but I’m a little disappointed right now.

Yes they do. They are in the minority for sure, but they do have a following. Also, elites would have opened up the possibility of Invasion.

I can’t really answer most of these of course, but as for Marty, there have been many stories about how incredibly difficult he is to work with, and not in a charming way. Apparently he made the workplace very toxic for his subordinates, and even threatened them at some point back during the og Halo days. His music was great, but the man himself was not very good at all, and sadly he only got worse at it as time went on. As much as I truly love his music, I am not selfish enough to want 343 devs to have to deal with him again.

Also, I still have my defaults in H2A, 3, and Reach set to play as an elite, so people do really play as elites.

I only care for the battle pass progression, everything else dont.
forge, coop, assasination and playable elites, i can wait.
The limited edition is coming, and the silver edition, the gold edition, the deluxe edition and the GOTY edition

Yes! A new version of the original theme was one of the songs that played on the menu for the flight.

No Forge or Co-op at launch is certainly disappointing for many. Still, I was not expecting Forge to be ready given the massive scale of Halo 5’s Forge and the expectation that Halo Infinite’s version would exceed its predecessor’s.

No assassinations at launch is a non-issue because it is not an integral feature.

I shouldn’t speak about progression until we see how it functions at launch.

No playable Elites is unfortunate but it is par for the course.

Having different editions of the game divides players at launch, no? Division doesn’t seem to be a part of 343i’s ideal for Halo Infinite.

The original Halo theme is in the game. You can listen to Infinite’s version on YouTube. As for Marty, I think a lot of fans are obsessed with him and worship the ground he walks on, but that’s not warranted. He’s just a talented musician. And there are a lot of talented musicians—including Neil Davidge, Kazuma Jinnouchi, Curtis Schweitzer, Gareth Coker and Joel Corelitz.

A Warthog Run would be nice, but there may be a more imaginative, entertaining ending in store.

For the record, the Warthog run doesn’t need to be at the end of the game.
That being said, while I love me some Warthog runs, I find it weird seeing this bullet point on the list. I wouldn’t call it a “Red Flag” if it were missing…

You’re right, but most OG trilogy fans think of the Warthog run as a “quintessential“ ending sequence.

it would also increase the amount of work needed for customization and reduce what the majority of players find as value in the bp. Making elites means a comparible customization system for them which then means less spartan stuff (as you dont magically produce more all of a sudden). That then reduces value in the bp for the majority which effects the sales of it.

Anyway, this isnt an elite thread so ill leave it at that.

I do think the lack of coop and forge are major issues for some. For me, they are not essential to the core experience. . Cam[aign and multiplayer still function well without them (hopefully anyway). Their additions are boons for me, but they lack of presence are not detractors for me. As long as they are there within a reletively decent window, its not that big of an issue.

Music wise, Marty being their or not being there means nothing. His presence =/= a good sound track. He also has been kind of a child lately and seeing people worship him annoys me immensly. I think the Halo composers are doing a stellar job so far and would not have it any other way.

Warthog runs are cool and I am all for them being there. However, I do also find them kind of bland in the contexts of what they could do. Hog runs while are viewed as staples, are also repetative. I dont want infinite to be predictable purely cause its halo.

Ah yes, can’t have fun game features messing with the value of the BP…

Sad that the priorities for this game have become so warped.

Fair enough.
I would also like to mention that you could be affected by no Forge, even if you don’t use it personally. Matchmaking maps, custom games, and such will all take a hit because of this. Customs like, Jenga Tower, speed Halo, etc. All won’t be present due to this. But hey, it’s a new Halo and hopefully it will be chocked full of new features to hold us over until we can Forge.
We’ve had two Warthog runs.(3 and CE. An additional one if you count Anniversary.) A third one won’t be too repetitive imo and would rather be a nice way to top off a spiritual reboot. Of course, that’s just my opinion.
I can agree that folks worship Marty way too much. Heck, some don’t even acknowledge Michael Salvatori.

Agreed on all counts, including others that some have mentioned. When Microsoft founded a game studio for the sole purpose of milking more money out of the halo franchise, they set themselves up for failure. The priorities in development have clearly been skewed towards microtransactions, battle passes, and other monetization crap. Keep in mind that none of this is necessary for Halo to be profitable… Halo 1-reach all entirely avoided that, and did wonders. But now that microsoft has caught a whiff of how much money they can make from children buying pizza skins, they likely won’t make any more good Halo.

All we can hope is that someday they decide to just focus on making a good halo game that explores the universe well, rather than a cash cow.

It’s something that doesn’t influence the quality of the game but what do you think about the marketing of the game, did you like it?
Thank you all for your comments!

Watch them surprise us the very day before launch and announce stuff that are in the game they never meant to show us at first. LoL. I don’t know maybe the armour color scheme has change and turned it into maybe a 8 armour color option.

Raytracing has disappeared from conversation. After the year-long delay, it should come at launch.

No. They just want to play as elites for the sake of it. Basically it isn’t there so they want it. It’s very childish.

you can dislike it it and thats fine. However, we need to be realistic. The games ftp, it needs to provide perceived value in the things it sells. Even if we remove the BP from the equation, the issue still stands. Elites = less customization for the majority of the player base (the majority play as spartans).

It will be 10 years of content, so I imagine they will work on all this.

This is just my opinion, I want you to know that I will still buy Halo Infinite at launch.I really hope that there will be a big event for the 20th Anniversary in November and they shut our mouths, surprise us and increase the hype.

Making elites means a comparible customization system for them which then means less spartan stuff (as you dont magically produce more all of a sudden). That then reduces value in the bp for the majority which effects the sales of it.

Cam[aign and multiplayer still function well without them (hopefully anyway). Their additions are boons for me, but they lack of presence are not detractors for me. As long as they are there within a reletively decent window, its not that big of an issue.

Heck, some don’t even acknowledge Michael Salvatori.

all that entirely depends on the state of the multiplayers launch. If the games core multiplayer cant carry it 6 months, it doesnt deserve to survive any longer imo. Forge is meant to be additional on top of a good launch suite. 5’s lack of forge was so noticable and damaging because it had a poor launch suite (few maps, no modes, no social etc).

If infinite can launch with a decent number of arena and btb maps with social (including more social modes such as infection, fiesta etc) and ranked, people will notice the lack of forge less. Then when forge is released, that content would have had its time and players can then start injecting more custom modes in.
