Title says it all. Don’t get me wrong I love Halo 2, but I just played some BTB and I think I missed out on at least 5-6 kills because of my hits just not registering. I guess this is because people said it’s the Vista port with awful hitboxes?
Yep, it true. That’s why I’m not playing mm until the fabled dedicated servers come online. Hopefully they will before I leave for boot camp.
Dedicated servers won’t help.
Halo 2 classic is the Vista port.
Bullet registration will be awful unless they update the net code.
Crappy net code+ dedicated servers still equals horrible hit detection.
I respectfully disagree, but hate to defend this -Yoink!- much more than that

I really hope that’s not the case. I’m no computer guy or whatever but I’d like to play Halo 2 again. Even if it’s the vista version.

Sadly, it is. If my memory serves me correctly, when I played halo 2 vista years ago it had dedicated servers for matchmaking. And the hit detection was god awful.
It is much like the Halo CE pc port honestly.
It is totally patch able though, I’ve seen games with much worse net codes start to run smoother after some updates.
Question is, will 343 actually try to fix the net code with all the other crap that is messed up.
It’s the PC version which wasn’t as good as the Xbox version.
I have to add, for some reason it seems most people just recently realized it was the PC version and threw a fit, as if 343 pulled a fast one on them. But we’ve known this was going to be the PC version ever since they said “PC maps will be included” … I mean, what they expect?
So I suppose their options were as follows:
Option A: listen to everyone complain about PC version
Option B: listen everyone complain the PC maps weren’t included
At least with “option A” they can say “all Halo maps ever will be included”.
And I suppose you could say “why not do Xbox version for those maps and PC version for the PC maps?” Well, then you’d have to do the same for CE, and you’d have four engines alone just there. Plus the Anniversary engines for each campaign. That’s six engines just for those two. Plus Halo 2 Anniversary MM engine, Halo 3 engine, and Halo 4 engine.
So it was Option A or Option B.

Rather than complain about ill probably just avoid Halo 2 Classic outright now until it’s patched if it is ever patched. I enjoy Halo 3 and H2A more anyway.
It’s probably because 343 decided to use old non-updated/non-patched versions of all 4 games. The Halo 2 game in MCC is a port of the Halo 2 Windows Vista version, and in the PC version this hit detection problem was probably patched a long time ago. 343 was just stupid as hell and used an old non-patched version of the game. The fact that 343 did this blows my mind. It makes no freaking sense.

To be fair, putting the PC maps on the OG Halo 2 probably would have worked. Tombstone and Desolation were never released for Halo 2 Vista and yet they work fine in H2 MCC, which is still the PC version.

Did not know that …

it’s because 343 didn’t do it. Halo 3 and 4 were outsourced to Ruffian games. Source below.

How/why they didn’t use the latest update I don’t know, but they didn’t. 343 actually didn’t do much for this game. They had to design the UI and I think something else, but funny enough the parts 343 did are the ones in need of fixing and every complaint by players has been a complete oversight by those trusted to do the ports, but yes, it makes no sense.
