Oh you competitive players who do nothing but insult us for being “casuals” Stop it, get some help.
Seriously people who say Halo 5 is just for competitive players need to stop. We have as much of a right to play this game as you. All we have is firefight, and action sack, but the competitive plague rolls through there as well. When we lose in firefight you say “Git gud noob” How’s about 343 makes firefight fun and possible for the common player? But what would I know? I’m just some casual.
People say its only for competative players? All i hear is that there are too many and that the game should be casual and weed out the competitive players.

Well we also have Forge and Customs, I’ve created a very complex hide and seek map on Overgrowth, however it is a continous project, as I have found places to put mythic weapons when they are added to Forge. Also I need some prefabs for certain areas.

That map sounds fun! Let us know when it’s complete!
Competitive or community based playlists, your going to find those competitive players in most of the playlists you travel. If they’re bringing on their A-game, bring on yours too, even if theirs is better than yours. And if your on the loosing team after a match of Action Sack for example, and you get a message from an opposing player stating “Git good nub/scrub” or something to taunt you with, it’s better off just to ignore them. Don’t let somebody else’s competitive skill drive you away from having fun. It’s your play-style, play it the way you want to, don’t let somebody boss you around/humiliate ya for your level of skill.
You also have btb and breakout is social now I guess and griffball customs etc. But don’t let peoples competiveness drive you away from having fun. Ignore everyone that’s annoying or stupid and just have fun.
Last I checked you have to be quite sweaty if you want to win a ZWFF game, so it is tough to call the suposedly casual game mode “casual”, especially when Reach has Arcadefight.
Again this is where H3 had it right
the game was packed with content and had PERMENANT PLAYLISTS that catered to BOTH the casual AND competitive communities
wanted to have fun?
jump into any number of the social unranked playlists
wanted to get sweaty and earn a 50?
Jump into any number of the competitive ranked playlists
this is a massive part where H5 fails it doesn’t provide an experience for all of its players
It’s not that I have anything really against casual gamers, I just really don’t think they have any idea of what’s really good for the game… the types of gamers that like Jet-pack in Reach and H4 just because “it’s cool to be able to fly around” for example… without any consideration of the negative repercussions on gameplay.
But another casual mindset that I just do not understand is the seeming lack of appreciation of standard Halo game modes. Like 90% of the montages floating around nowadays consist of Grifball, SWAT, Infection, Super Fiesta… and now I’m assuming Action Sack clips.
Like, I just got a Killtrocity, double Extermination in Husky Raid the other day but you know what? You won’t see that in my montage… or even my Sniper Exterm from the same game. That’s not the way Halo was designed to be played… it is not a competitive game mode where you have all facets of the game to consider, where your skill and awareness are tested in maps where you can be spotted, attacked, even trapped from all angles… where you literally have to control the power items and map itself to gain the upper hand.
Idk, I just wish more gamers had the drive to play competitively like the H2/H3 days, but it’s like the modern “casual gamer” mindset took them over as well.

No not really, you just have to be coordinated to win at FF
I wish we could drop these terms all together.
People seem to forget that the casual player is what everyone was before competitive play was even a concept. A majority of the fanbase is neglected and their requests fall on deaf ears because competitive play is the main focus for this game’s existence, which is really bad for player retention.
Then, it doesn’t make it any more helpful when the only thing competitive players who brown nose and think absolutely nothing is wrong with this game say “git gud” as if they’re on some higher level of existence and their opinions matter more.
What makes that even funnier is when some of the same people have Halo MP history that starts with Halo 4 or 5. Their concept of “being gud” is warped. Heavily.
Funny because as a competitive player I do not find this game competitiveat all. Broken rank system that doesn’t show skill, supposed comp. Playlist yet there is never any communication and/or mis not being used. The halo title being pulled from MLG shows how bad the game has progressed. But do not.be mad when you run into a few of the comp people trying to make the best out of what we have to work with. Just remember a competitive game can be played casually but a casual game cannot or almost never be played competitivly.

That makes absolutely no sense. A game geared around doing good cannot be played casually as you’ll just get stomped, end up having no fun and leaving. But a game geared towards casuals can be competitive if their is a competent ranking system, and the will to continue playing, learning all the tricks to make yourself better than the rest,

You know getting better usually comes from playing people better than you right? Learning what they are doing that you aren’t. H2 and h3 were both geared totally on competitive play esp h3. Yet I still had my casual fun all the time in the game. You can not expect to go into ranked playlist to just casually walk about and expect to have fun and play well do you?

That isn’t really true. Halo 3 was very well balanced in the casual versus competitive split. It had social versions of key playlists.

No, but you act like there can’t be ranked playlists in a more socially geared game.

Come on man, jet packs are fun and were a great edition in Reach. As far as fun mechanics like jet packs go, if it breaks map design and is still fun, leave it as an option for custom games and social playlists.
Not that 343i has any clue how to make a an actual Halo game that is also casual and competitive friendly in matchmaking.

Are you really using the latest montages you watched to judge what people like and assume anything not in it is not liked? I watched a mongoose mowdown montage in Halo 3, so does that mean peope only liked to use the mongoose as their weapon of choice? Who cares what people make their montages on (unless they are staged/fake).

Halo was not designed to play that way in the past because it was litterally impossible to create (outside of mods maybe), but saying Halo is designed to play in a certain way becomes more and more subjective. As far as base competitive gameplay sure, but I could easily argue the rest of “halo” 5 was not designed to play like an actual Halo game either.

So you like to be a complete try hard all the time and playing a social game mode is frowned upon? Give us a break, I don’t see where you are going with this, but that is that it sounds like.

This is wrong on so many levels.
“Casuals” are the core gamers, don’t cater to them, they go away, just like the rest of your game. Halo 3 catered to them, but Halo 3 also catered to the try hards. This might also surprise you, but not everyone wants to be competitive or casual 100% of the time. Reach had a good variety of ways to play as well, but it did lack in the differences between competitive and social pvp ways to play.
If you are pining for the days of Halo 2 or 3, which were amazing games for their time, it would help significantly if 343i could release an amazing game for our time as well.
But that won’t ever happen.Phaaze brought up some great points as well:

Yea but in my experience players just used it to warm up by squashing randoms.
Halo is naturally a competitive game and people are -Yoink!-. Hell I remember get messages on Halo 4 from people saying I sucked. Halo 4, the most casual, easy, non-competitive halo.
Competitive people should understand its only a -Yoinking!- game. Its not important and to be honest unless your a pro player there’s always someone better than you so get off your high horse and -Yoink- off.
Casual players should understand Halo is a competitive shooter. You should go in trying your best to win and understand that even in social people are going to try to win. Competition is an integral part of people and Halo.
Also OP if someone’s being a -Yoink- make sure you report them. It does actually help.

Not really, a lot of people used Social Skirmish/Social slayer as a way to play in a relaxed manner or just goof off with their mates. Halo 4 wasn’t any more ‘casual’ than anything else, it wasn’t mechanically sound and that is the issue. I’d agree with your second issue.
I don’t think it’s ever been about ‘trying to win’ it’s more about the way you go about it. I’m a casual player. I prefer to win, but I’m okay if I don’t. I refuse to do things I consider immoral or unsporting. I refuse to camp (unless I’m in a 3 or 4 vs 1 and then find me -Yoinks!-.) I will not glitch out of the map or the like. I don’t have the time or the energy to memorize maps and call outs, learn every secret jump, or weapon spawn. Find and pick out perfect sight lines. I’m not going to memorize spawn patterns. That is the kind of thing most people are referring to when they refer to competitive players. The ones who frankly take the game a bit too seriously for my taste. I play when I have time using my own skills, reaction time, and ingenuity and nothing else.
No one should be sending hate mail after a match. We all have good matches and bad matches and there is no excuse for acting like a -Yoink-.
I love this.
