Oh no! 343i added jumping!

Think about it. If Halo 1-3 did not incorporate jumping, and 343i added it to Halo 4, people would be complaining like crazy. They would complain “it ruins the simplicity,” or “its no longer competitive.” They would complain that people can now get up to places they should not be on a map and camp. They would complain that they could just jump over a ledge to the bottom floor if they were being shot to “run away from” being killed. Some people would be okay with it until they realized how high the Spartans could jump and say its unrealistic or annoying. People would complain Halo was becoming like other shooters. Competitive players would be mad because they would have to relearn how to headshot people even when they are jumping, and their skills from one game to the next wouldn’t transfer as smoothly.

My point is, if Bungie had added things like Sprint to Halo from the start, no one would see it as unusual. No one would see it as taking away from competitiveness. They would be used to it and if it was taken out, people would complain. People would argue that it adds variance, dynamics, and strategy to movement (just like jumping).

EDIT:
Jumping did not have to be a part of Halo. Games like Timesplitters and Goldeneye did well without it. Yet, these games still function well in 3 dimensions. Halo could have, from the start, only used stairs, inclines, ladders, and bounces for vertical movement. In a similar way, sprint functions as a variation of movement which was already present. Instead of just jogging, it adds choices to the player’s repertoire, in order to make things more interesting and dynamic.

what? i don’t understand

Oh NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

No but really that title made me luagh so much.

And very well said OP.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. People freaking out about sprint are ridiculous. They would be the same people freaking out about jumping if it hadn’t been added yet. People are afraid of change.

Here comes change!

> They would be the same people freaking out about jumping if it hadn’t been added yet. People are afraid of change.

Uh, no. It’s more like people are afraid of bad gameplay that goes along with Sprint.

> what? i don’t understand

He’s just poking some fun at the people complaining.

Plus yeah, Halo’s style of jumping is really unique compared to most games out there.

Im pro sprint and all that junk but say if master chiefs visor changed from gold to blue the world would explode. We complain. Thats what halo fans do. We complain and when we dont get what we want we complain about something completely irrelevant and then we get it to change and then we complain about the change. Deal with it.

> Here comes change!

AND IT’S DIFFERENT!!! ARGH!!

smh

OH GOD ANYTHING BUT JUMPING

Let me imitate the people who started playing in Reach:

Y Dun U LIEK CHANGE??? iTs so fare luk know ther r killstrks n i evry1 has a comnion to figt wit!! u dun lkike change LULULULUL!!!111!!111

I think I did a pretty good job. These type of people seem to like change even though it spells out disaster.

Jumping ruins competitive play because it’s harder to kill them. I am a typical competitive player and I are have plaryed since Halo was created back in 2007 by 343i.

Running also ruins competitive play! The only way to show off our skillz the rite way are to let us play without moving. Running is so not Halo.

This is the typical argument of a real competitive player on this forum. #truth

Well put, OP!

What would you know about competitive gaming? Oh wait nothing that’s right [REDACTED] Why don’t you just sit back and listen to people who actually know what they are talking about.

No! Jumping isn’t halo!!! It’s pro noob and all it does is let casuals jump put of the way of being killed. It promotes the idea that you can escape from being killed by doing something different; gasp going vertical. Screw this, this game is going to fail. I am disappointed by such skepticism and small piece of information. My own emotions have gotten the best of me over one small detail even though I know nothing about how jumping will be executed. Woe is me. falls dramatically

> > Here comes change!

So why are we listening to you? No one knows what we are talking about because we have crap for information. Dont act like you know whats going on. No one does.

Wow, look another Living Dead guy acting like he knows what’s best for a competitive game. lol Oh and most competitive players have been playing Halo since 2001, guys like you didn’t start until 2009.

Now i think your trolling because its insanely obvious this guy is joking.

> > Here comes change!

Hmmm, looking at my k.d so smack talk me eh? First of all, I have a pretty bad k.d for 2 reasons: 1) I do not take Halo Reach serious at all, 2) I really do not look at Halo Reach as competitive.

And what I ment by “Here come change!”, is change from Halo Reach, because Reach is such a wreck.
