Don’t you guys just love talking with your friends about completing challenges in this game? I mean, who in their right mind would want to progress and simultaneously play a game with their friends amirite?? (Disclaimer: this entire post is sarcasm.)
When I want to play with friends, we just usually hook up and form a party, ask what people want to play and hit the search button for the game mode everyone agrees upon.
Tends to work out just about every other time.
Be even easier I hope when we get a Custom Game Browser though. Really looking forward to that, but that’ll probably be a long time from now sadly.
It’s an event.
Fans of FFA game types deserve their time in the sun.
Maybe you just need better friends to make it worth it (Disclaimer: sarcasm.)
Dont pretend like 343 cant just change the challenges to be “Kill X spartans in PVP” thus creating an umbrella challenge that encompasses literally every game mode under the sun.
Doesnt matter what the game mode is, mode specific challenges that differ among individuals divides a parties attention and eventually forces a split if each person’s goal is to complete challenges while playing.
I think it’s pretty clear that this is how they want the event to play out, wither you or anyone else likes it or not. That’s the perk of being the creators of the game, it ultimately falls down to their decision on how they want things handled and no one else’s.
You and others can still complain about it. But I feel at this point it’s not going to do any good personally.
They could. But the purpose of ‘events’ is to put the new game type in the spot light. Encourage everyone to try it. Push the population at the start. Give it a chance to gain some traction. Plus provide some decent feedback / telemetry to see what needs to be changed.
The reality is that not everyone will like the new events. Whether it be Fiesta, LSS, or (shudder) Infection.
But you only have to play half a dozen games to earn the event items. If you want them, that is.
Probably twice that if (per chance) the weekly reward falls under your umbrella.
Or, you can just keep playing whatever you want until the event is over. I mean, it’s not like the Battle Pass is going anywhere.
And who knows… you might learn to like it. After the last event I wouldn’t have given LSS a second thought - but I actually started to enjoy my time yesterday. Even the grindy bit at 250ms ping. The new weapon menu and XP balls have improved things.
Give me a week off and I might try again… just for “fun”.
Of course you are right. It is because of this that the average online in steam over the past 30 days is 3800 people. And in June it was 4300, and in May it was 6400. In general, the strategy of the developers with their privileges is 100% correct. Forecast for the end of 2022 - 500 online.

Answer: The game is dwindling as a whole.
I’m fine with FFA challenges and gamemodes, but they need to remove the fireteam restriction in social !! Add the FFA playlists to ranked if you don’t want fireteams to be there. Social is meant to be the casual playlist, there isn’t an excuse to restrict fireteams even if it is FFA. We don’t have pre-game or post-game lobbies, most people mute their mics on default. “social” ain’t social any more. Putting FFA in social with fireteam restrictions is a joke.
If 343 is worried about fireteams cheating in FFA modes then they shouldn’t treat the casual side of their game like a sweatfest. I primarily play this game with my girlfriend and we want to play together. But these challenges mean we just stay in the same party and play different modes, sometimes different games. MCC didn’t have that restriction but you know what the two of us did in Slayer? We stole each other’s kills, we hunted each other down, “protected” each other when outnumbered just to stab each other in the back. Most friends and s/o’s that play with each other usually sabotage each other instead of cheating and forming teams because that’s funnier than cheating.
But no I guess the few bad apples ruined it for the rest of us.
I was just thinking - they could have made it so if you party up with someone (only one person), you share a smaller number of lives.
You can still play MCC custom game browser until Infinite’s comes out
As a solo gamer I welcome the solo events/challenges.
Rude but ultimately, yes, Halo’s FFA experiences have been lacking for a VERY long time… and I don’t LIKE FFA usually, but LSS is… Different.
This is nice that you have a system that works, but you forgot to mention that not everyone in your group can pursue the same challenges simultaneously. This is an important form of progression for some people so its kinda a let down in terms of social play
I resent that remark. Lone Wolves in Halo 3 was great.
Then again that was almost 15 years ago now.
Time amirite?
Yeah, but we can say that is due to bugs and potentially poor PC optimization. Though Xbox is also low, I can imagine it has a much higher playerbase.
I gotta’ be real, I don’t know what your talking about. Large in part because I didn’t have internet access until late 2009.
I also have fond experiences with halo 3’s lone wolf playlist especially the matches on the pit lol
Anyone who got all the achievements in the game definitely has Lone Wolves stories considering how many required ranked ffa to complete, like your first Overkill (Mine was Swords on Snowbound), and how you got your first Spartan Laser double kill, or your first Mongoose splatter kill.
