Oh....A medal...Yay.

Medals in this game are pretty much pointless. There’s no more satisfaction in getting them. It used to be that getting anything as small as a double kill felt pretty good because you would see that medal pop up. Now it’s like “Overkill, meh.”
Am I the only one that feels this way?

Yes OP you are. I like getting medals. Last night I got a Busted metal and it was fun.

Mhm… I would say one thing.

If 343i was very very intelligent and looking to give a change at the current fps world, I would say that they are doing it on purpose. They are pushing people to lose interest on medals/statistics to aim only at having fun or playing the game good. It wouldn’t be a bad idea, lately fps games are all about K/D ratio, W/L ratio and medals…

You’ve never gotten an overkill in Halo 4. Nor many sprees or other multikills, for that matter.

I still feel the same way when I get a good multikill or spree. The randomness and fast paced nature of this game makes it harder to get large multikills because something always seems to happen to that last guy you needed to kill. I’ve been so close to so many overkills and killtaculars and either had the game end right then or the last guy accidentally jumps off the map or something.

Some of the medals are pretty pointless, though.

The medals are to make everyone happy with the constant popups. Yes, for players like you that devalues the purpose of the medals, but it makes others feel good about themselves. And that keeps them playing, since they get 8 popups for killing a flag carrier.

I agree, no satisfaction with getting medals anymore, barely even notice when I get them anymore.

Don’t get me wrong. Medals aren’t the most important thing to me. It’s just that I miss the flash that they had. Like sniping someone to me doesn’t have the same feel without that medal.

Overkills and killing sprees are still fun, but considering you literally get a medal no matter how you kill someone, something like a headshot with a sniper doesn’t feel interesting. Sometimes if you stick someone as you die and respawn before the grenade blows up, you’ll get about 5 medals.

I like seeing that i got them, how ever the sense of accomplishment isnt there since you get one for everything now. However when like 12 pop up at once and you score 35+ points I go crazy

Agreed 100%,OP.
I used to love them. Not only the designs are dull and unispired, but there’s a medal for pretty much everything right now. They lost their value.I didn’t even react when I got my first and only rampage medal.

> Now it’s like “Overkill, meh.”

You’ve not even got an Overkill in Halo 4…
How can you possibly comment with “Overkill, meh”

I still feel excited when i get medals with Jeff Steitzer shouting out the medal.

I find them really annoying, especially in gametypes like oddball and KOTH. I know I’m holding the damn ball/hill, not to mention that the huge numbers on my screen are saying it as well (+2…+4…+6…etc…). And then you also get medals for holding them (Hold the ball/hill for 5 seconds, , for 10 seconds , for 15 seconds…etc…).

Every time you fire a bullet or even when you drive for a second you’re already getting a medal… Jump over a gap with the warthog? Here a medal! You just walked into a base on dominion which your teammate was capturing? Here have a capture assist medal! Even if you kill someone with a plasma grenade without sticking him, you get a ‘plasma kill’ medal… And then you also have a seperate medal for almost every single (power)weapon…

Halo: Reach introduced many new medals after Halo 3, but that was just fine and it should have stayed that way, now it’s just ridiculous…

> They are pushing people to lose interest on medals/statistics to aim only at having fun or playing the game good.

For any developer to push a gamer away from statistics, the game needs to be fun without bragging rights and ego comforts. Halo 4 is not fun. It’s a non-skilled based mess that creates frustration instead of ecstasy by catering to noobs on nearly every aspect.

This game is really only floating on the ego of a increasingly smaller group of gamers that want a few of these bland medals and statistics.

I especially enjoy the “comeback kill” and “distraction” medals. Since you suck so much, we will give you a medal so you feel good inside.

Medals are way too easy to get. It’s literally not possible to get a kill wtihout getting a medal, hell you get one for dying 3 times and then getting a kill.

You’re bound to get 2 or 3 every life. They’re just unnecessary clutter. Who cares if you killed someone after you died 3 times? Do you need a medal for getting a kill, a grenade kill, or for just being shot at?

I’ve never played a match where people have had 0 medals in Halo 4. Seen it enough times in other games. The ease of getting medals just makes medals worthless. IMO, medal spreadsheets are far too cluttered, plus no top medals being shown makes it hard to sift through the crappy medals.

It has felt this way since Reach, well at least it has for me.

> It has felt this way since Reach, well at least it has for me.

That might be because Headshot was a medal, and most Halo players go for Headshots.

We were talking about this in a party while playing H4 the other night.
You might as well have the announcer say ‘SPAWNED’ when you start the game, and have a medal pop up!

Excessive medal clutter.
Bland looking medals.
No real ‘pop’ when they appear.
Medals for too many things.

It reminds me of the age old insult, when somebody does something and they boast about it, you say, “do you want a medal”?

Pathetic really.
