OG Xbox Backwards Compatibility = H2 Return?

With the announcement of backwards compatible Xbox games would this mean H2 classic can return in its true form? I realize this would defeat the purpose of its inclusion in the MCC but with MCC being scrapped/ignored by 343 one would think that H2 would be easy money.

It’s a long shot but with the broken ranking system of MCC, I would love to see this happen. Thoughts?

I imagine it will play the same way it does if you still have an original Xbox. You cannot play it online as the Original Xbox servers are offline. No original Xbox games can be played online through XBL. Unless they change that, it will be local games only like campaign and local custom games.

True. It’s a thought anyways. Makes you wonder why they wouldn’t open some dedicated servers for these types of games.

It would be nice!

Definitely would be a worthwhile option, though that would make MCC a tad bit redundant.

I think it would be a nice thing, to do for just one month. I.e. Have a throwback month where players can play OG Halo 2. Why? So new/players who didnt play online back then can experience its innovative features for the time, such as friends list/parties IN GAME.

Just an idea, I think it would be nice. Good way to establish backwards compatibility further, and give Sony a nice kick in the soft bit.

Is the OG Xbox compatibility only for the Xbox One X?

No. Every console will play the same just at different resolutions. Think high and low settings on PC.

I think it will be much more difficult to make an original Xbox game backwards compatible. I would guess that there would be few more bugs that has to be fixed each step you take if the console isn’t designed around being backwards compatible.

Halo 2 had few issues on Xbox 360 which can be seen while watching speedruns made on the 360 version. The probability of backwards compatibility is reduced even further because Halo 2A in MCC has been released which means there exist 1 Xbox One version of the game.

I think that is just the simple answer. Xbox 360 was partly backwards compatible with the original Xbox. However, I think there may be a different how it reads the discs which makes them unable to play older games. I’m not an expert in the subject “What is the differences between Xbox One and original Xbox?” but there is differences how it’s coded.

I doubt we will get the original H2. Firstly the multiplayer is non-existent. So you would only be playing it for the Campaign and Lan games. I’m more interested in getting the rest of the Halo 360 games than the original games, but to have every Halo game backwards compatible would be a dream come true.

Wouldn’t it be possible to connect your Xlink Kai account to a system “online” link version to play H2 online but for the Xbox One X?

Did they announce when Original Xbox backwards compatibility was rolling out?

The reason Halo 2 had a lot of issues on the 360 was because the 360 didn’t use X86 the Xbox One does so it’s easier to bring OG Xbox games to the Xbox One then the 360.

If H3 still hasn’t become back compat because of MCC I doubt H2 or H1 will become back compat.

I think the most we’re getting is system link across all platforms so no online servers.

They would have to switch the servers and all the old settings back on assuming they have them anymore. Does anyone remember why they said they were shutting those servers down back in 2010?

Those were the servers that powered the original iteration of Xbox Live services. With the advent of the 360 they rebuilt everything onto a new platform for pushing forward with multiplayer gaming and eventually closed the old servers down. Somebody will have backups of the data stored somewhere, but by now the servers will long have been decommissioned and I can’t see them setting all that back up again - too outdated and not worth the resources to support.

Nope – only that it’s in the works.

I’d be nice if they turned the servers back on for Halo 2 but 343 isn’t capable of doing anything correctly and because MMC is a pile of garbage. I remember hearing about the MCC and couldn’t wait to try it out because I wanted to play nothing but Halo 2 team slayer all day long. But no, someone at 343 thought it was a great idea to have the community vote on what Halo game to play. Whoever thought that was a good idea should be fired and never allowed to work again.
