Og Halo CE native resolution question

Idk if this has been asked here before, but whats the native resolution of Halo CE and Halo 2 on the OG xbox vias the classic VCR cables??

Im planning on buying an external upscaler (Mclassic) to upscale the games up to 1080p, but the minimum resolution admited by the upscaler is 480p, so i wanted to know if both games are running at native 480p

It is in native 640x480 (4:3) if you have an older tv. Halo 2 has this and a widescreen option for 720x480 (16:9). However, Also if you have a 360 that also upscales the picture as well. I don’t know sadly. I think they are 480p but not entirely sure.

What the noob are you guys talking about? Halo 1 is clearly 4:3 640x480p. And Halo 2 is a special case like every other widescreen game on the original Xbox. You see, there’s a thing called UI stretching and changing horizontal FOV, when you select widescreen on your Xbox settings, it activates Halo 2’s UI to add more to the camera thus increasing the aspect ratio to a perfect 16:9 without stretching the image, but at the cost of the 2D HUD being stretched. The 3D renders are intact in widescreen but the HUD like the gun’s reticle in the middle of the screen is horizontally stretched. This is how most widescreen games are made for the Xbox. Verdict-Halo 2 is technically 853.2x480p Widescreen. Actually Age of Mythology on PC does it too when I type in a widescreen resolution in the shortcut to boot up and render that resolution instead of the stock 640x480 to 1600x1200. The games are technically true widescreen but the in game menu will look stretched. Doesn’t bother me though since I pay a lot of attention to the graphics instead of the reticle in the middle of my screen tellin me where da shoot.

@MRPIRATEFOX, use the component cables in 480p. Even s video in 480i is a huge jump over composite.

@Retro Guru, the back of the Halo 2 map pack mentions something about the 1.1 patch being better optimized for HD TVs. I’ve also heard Joe from Game Sack mention getting a patch onto a modded OGX for the H2 HUD. Does the 1.1 or 1.5 patch (with Blastacular) help the bitmap HUD? I’ve had 1.5 for a long time so no reference point on what it looked like before.
