I’ve ran into this problem myself, in order to earn anymore credits while playing Reach is to continue playing it online. Bungie implemented a system where if you already have an account or have had your copy of the game updated, you have to be connected to Xbox live in order to keep earning credits, it used to help them earn a more of a base by encouraging more people to play online; but other than that if you get the chance to respond, have you tried connecting your modem to your Xbox via Ethernet cable? If so this could help you with your disconnection problems.
