Seems to be very split feelings about this statement. I agree with a lot of people’s criticisms, especially how the monetisation works, and it seems like Sketch agrees with a lot too.

I just don’t agree that 343 are the right people to blame, they care about the franchise as much as any of us, they are fans too. They don’t want their game to be like this either, they want it to be as good as possible, and they’re probably working their butts off, and here we are giving them crap for that.
343 doesn’t own Halo, at the end of the day they don’t call the shots. Especially when it comes to monetisation I would suppose.

343 has done a great job, that doesn’t mean we need to be pleased with everything. Just criticise the game constructively and nicely.

I like everything BUT the this is a business statement. I get it, I do, but good lord the monetization of this game is predatory when compared to already existing free to play games made and published by companies with less money than Microsoft has to throw around. Hell, look at Warframe as a good example, and all of the free cosmetic stuff Digital Extremes gives away routinely. And, it’s definitely a smaller company than Microsoft/343.

But, even then, that’s no reason to just totally shaft progression and rewards for free track players. Especially with the precedent set by past games of the series. They cost money, but we all know Microsoft is not a small company hurting for money. On top of that, how is it any different than people just paying the flat $60 for past games?

The campaign is going to sell, everyone knows that. It’s Halo, it will sell based on name alone. All of this is just rubbing me the wrong way. And, as it stands, I went from being extremely excited about this release to not being excited. The gaming industry becoming more and more business focuses, and less of a passion field is just bad. And, honestly until this myriad of problems is solved this is the first Halo game I will not be buying.

I doubt it will matter in the end, because people still bought Cyberpunk despite the disaster it was, but I can at least make my statement with it.

This. Thank you.

Mid thirties, also bought an og Xbox just for Halo after playing it round a friend’s (and by bought, I mean, my little brother and I pooled Xmas and a birthday or two).

I’ve never left. But man, MCC and H5 MP at launch tried my patience. Both ended up great, so I never left, but it is so tiring to be here again.

But, as you said, feelings aren’t hurt.

I just want to understand, almost purely from curiosity at this point, how on earth intelligent human beings get from there to here. I want to give the benefit of the doubt, but for that to work, I’d have to assume a lot of people at 343 aren’t half as smart as I know they are.

The problem there, is that I have no reason to think the ship will be righted.

But, somehow I’m an optimist. So I’m hanging in there, like I did for previous games, but man. I’m exhausted

Sbmm is really starting to ruin the fun. Might as well just play ranked 24-7

The progression system is a joke. The battle pass a cheap cash grab. Items in the level 1-100 tier should be obtainable through gameplay progression and that alone. I’m not saying there should be no monetization I’m just saying it should be restricted exclusively to store items. There is no point in playing and progressing through the levels without purchasing the battle pass. It’s pathetic. Speaking of the battle pass it should be exclusively for xp boosts and challenge swaps for those who want it. Locking 100 levels of rewards behind the premium battle pass is unacceptable and downright criminal. It’s a shame because I love the way the game plays but what’s the point in pushing through the levels with no reward unless you spend money. It’s a joke.

It’s not just the progression. It’s the shoddy netcode, the playlist fiasco, the customization debacle, the co-op situation, custom games and forge being not finished. The list is potentially endless.

Seems like the devs took all the feedback they didn’t like and chucked it in the trash. It’s really a slap in the face to us to “make our voices heard”, but they never listen to what we have to say.

Relative to new maps, modes, or equipment, player cosmetics and profile flair are dirt cheap and easy to implement. It’s not hard to see why developers would want to go this route to fund future games, or in the case of live-service titles, to fund actual content and not cosmetics.

They always do that I’m shocked that everyone’s surprised. Sort of like MCC PC splitscreen. People have been begging for 2 years and all they do is nuke threads asking for it. Added to the backlog December of last year only to be dropped completely from it with absolutely 0 explanation. Unless you’re a big time streamer our opinions do not matter what so ever.

Why does this whole thing read like “please yell at us so we can ignore it. Thank you.”

Because that’s what it is lol. They’re pretending to care to save face but all they care about is answering to the corporate over lord’s.

That too. Any kind of road map helps. Transparency is pretty helpful in getting people to understand what you are trying to convey, and how you are trying to adapt to the fanbase’s needs.

The roadmaps are great until they remove features from them with 0 explanation and refuse to even acknowledge them

Wow your 8 hour cool down really helped you guys /s

That’s their new business model! Ignore everything that people are asking for and load us up on half baked battle pass content and charge us $20 for an atrocious looking armor core

I mean he admitted the 343 UI/UX Lead made an interface so badly intertwined, they need to basically overhaul it to have more than a few playlists going at a time.

Reminder: They built this themselves from scratch.

I would totally understand if they were like “Sorry guys, we’re always having to overhaul stuff because we’re working with a system built in 2001!”
