Official Soundtrack Volume 2: Reactions

I have been listening to this all day at work and it’s awesome background music due to having no lyrics while making all my work feel Halo-epic. Below are my reactions and favourites, which do you like?

1. Gravity (track 2):
Is simply god-tier and feels like a new Halo anthem.

2. Convoy (track 10):
Has the best pacing, a real Halo soundtrack that’s for sure.

3. Galaxy Extended (track 11):
Is fantastic while giving me similar Halo anthem feels.

4. Foreshadow (track 13):
It’s like Halo, Ghostbusters & The Running Man had a dark evil baby, currently my favourite track.

5. Intruders (track 16):
Seems like a throwback to the Reach soundtrack, excellent track.

6. Sacrifice (track 18):
Is just godly and feels like Halo meets Inception IMO.

7. Never Forget Midnight Version (track 19):
Is so peaceful and striking, Gold. Remember Reach.

8. Majestic (track 20):
Feels like a new Halo-Matrix-Star Wars exploration, loving the second half of this track.

I love Escape, Wreckage, and Intruders. I’ve been wanting those pieces since H4 came out. Boosting on a ghost, working your way through a field of debris, and fighting the Covenant on the Dawn, all just loved.

I was looking everywhere for the song at the end of Spartan Ops and it’s Lasky’s Theme. It’s beautiful. :`)

Volume 2’s version of “To Galaxy (Extended)” is my favorite song on the soundtrack. I don’t like to say this, but to describe the track as “epic” feels appropriate.

“Mantis”, “Antonement”, “Sacrifice”, “Pylons” and of course “Never Forget” are all excellent tracks as well.

Overall, extremely happy with Volume 2. Hopefully next time, 343 will put all the music together a la Halo 3 and the rest of the Bungie soundtracks onwards.

A wonderful addition! I think even better than the first!

My personal faves are:

  • Wreckage
  • Pylons
  • To Galaxy (Extended)
  • Mantis
  • Sacrifice
  • Never Forget (Midnight Version)

My favorites are:
Actually, now that I started typing the list, I realized I love nearly all of them. They’re all definitely amazing in their own way.

I think it might be official that we love the OST Vol. 2

I quite like Aliens, I’m a big fan of the ethereal choir, and the somewhat ominous atmosphere it creates.

The only one I don’t really like is Swamp, and that’s because 343 used it far too much in SpOps.

Aliens is growing on me too. Funny last night I threw in some quality ear buds and I have to say Galaxy Extended jumped up in quality another few notches as well as the atmosphere qualities!

I wasn’t very keen on Halo 4’s music, I know they wanted to go somewhere new but for me I’m finding it hard to venture away to what we were used to before. Marty O’Donnell set an incredible atmosphere and tone for the Halo story/Universe his music made me connect with the story and characters, and the tracks and themes he created really stood out from anything I’ve ever heard in a video game or even movies before, he really created a unique Identity for the series and his music always has my imagination going wild i am obsessed with it.

Neil Davidge and Kazuma Jinnouchi wasn’t bad or anything but he didn’t seem to create a unique feeling or Identity for Halo 4 and I didn’t seem to connect with the story that he made the music to. Im not being blind by nostalgia (well maybe a little) but it’s not the reason I’m not a fan of the new music.
