It’s great to see how open and honest ske7ch seems to be with the community. And so I hope this is a good opportunity to get any kind of official response regarding Halo 5 Forge for PC. I would really appreciate it, even if they have no plans to fix it, because then at least we know that.
1. Communication
The game does not have a built in voice chat, and while it does have text chat, it doesn’t work very well. The problems with it are that it only works while you’re playing, so you can’t use it in the lobby, and the messages only shows up for 10 seconds, with no way of viewing them again. This makes it difficult to communicate with people while playing.
I would like if the text chat also worked in the lobby and allowed you to bring up the last few messages by hitting the chat key.
2. Mouse Aiming
Right now the mouse aiming feels very sluggish (even with raw input enabled, smoothing disabled and game dvr turned off). It’s especially bad when using warthog turrets, because it feels like the faster you move your mouse, the slower the turret turns. That makes warthogs practically useless if you’re using a mouse.
To make the turrets feel more responsive, I think the crosshair should move just like it does when you’re using a weapon, but have the turret turn at a slower rate towards the direction you aim, to keep it balanced.
Something that seems rather strange, but could very well be related to the mouse issues, is that changing controller aim sensitivity, directly affects the mouse aim sensitivity. So I would guess that the mouse movement simulates controller input.
3. Crashes
The game frequently crashes, usually before you’re getting in to a custom game, or after a custom game have ended. And when it does, it always seem to happen to multiple people at the same time.
For example, I joined a group of 10 people and then all of the sudden half of them “left”, shortly after the rest started leaving and we didn’t get to play.
4. PC Settings
There are plenty of settings that you can change, so it’s over all pretty good in that aspect. However it is missing some settings that are pretty important. One being a field of view slider, Something that’s very common in PC first person shooters, which allows you to change how narrow/wide you want your view.
I believe the field of view is currently at 78 degrees, which is quite low compared to 90-120 degrees that people tend to use for PC first person games.
Another thing would be the option to uncap the frame rate, so that the game plays as smooth as possible on high refresh rate monitors.
5. Controller Superiority
I play first person shooters with keyboard and mouse, and I’m pretty terrible with a controller. But even then, I have found it far easier to land shots when using a controller, due to the very strong aim assist.
If the mouse aiming gets fixed, it would help, but I still feel that the aim assist would have to be turned down quite a bit to make it more fair. Especially because keyboard and mouse is the most common input method for PC, so it shouldn’t be easier to play using something else. Same logic would apply if controllers was the most common input method for PC.
