I read it, it’s pretty interesting so far and we get to see that they’re equipped with different gear depending on their mission. Also interesting seeing the ships on the UNSC side, and a new UNSC vehicle. As well as active camo? huh?
So John does more talking here and getting the rebels on their side, I like that. Interesting. Again, with comics, each issue makes me want more, so I’m looking forward to next one.
A new UNSC vehicle.Im excited to see that.
I remember the days when this was the only visual illustration of Blue Team…

Nostalgia…
It looks childish as hell.Suppose we are geting Halo Megablocks game after all:(
I’m so glad it’s actually drawn. I checked out some Star Wars comics from my library recently and it looked like the artist just photoshoped screen pics from the movies.
There are no comic book stores where I live though so I’ll have to wait like a year for the graphic novel to come out.

One thing that always bugged me is the following: Spartans only got energy shielding on their MJOLNIR in 2551. So for 26 years most of them were fighting the Covenant using armor that could only withstand 0-2 hits by a plasma bolt (sure, there was Red Team which was issued experimental energy shielding but it is implied that the vast majority of Spartans didn’t have energy shields). So for 26 years the Spartans were supposedly killing Elites and Brutes left and right, which means that they had to put in possibly dozens of rounds into a single enemy without taking any fire back. Every time they encountered even a blue Elite Minor it would have been an extremely dangerous scenario. They would have to not be hit by a single enemy bolt while connecting with several bullets. And what if they encountered several Elites, or even some higher-ranking Elites with even stronger energy shields? Are we supposed to believe that Elites have terrible aim and are unable to hit a Spartan once before the Spartan unloads several bullets into it? And if that were true, then Spartans would have to be the ultimate ninjas, running around doing acrobatics all over the place dodging enemy fire while unloading bullet after bullet into the enemy’s energy shields. And we don’t see this style of fighting neither in the books nor the comics.
In fact in this first edition of Halo Collateral Damage we see Blue Team engaging several Elite Minors by just forming a standard firing line. The Elites drop like flies, with the plasma bolts whizzing past the Spartans. We don’t see evidence of any energy shields on the Elites and the Elites apparently drop as easy as any Grunt or Jackal, which one bullet to their chest. Did these Elites early in the war just not have energy shields? Are we to believe these Spartan-IIs survived 26 years of the war killing (presumably) hundreds or thousands of energy-shielded Elites and Brutes while taking comparatively minor casualties themselves? It just seems way too outlandish IMO. Bungie or 343 should have really thought about the implications when they made the Spartans only receive energy shielding in 2551.

They are ninjas though. That was always the appeal for me, really durable, really strong; but it was stealth, speed and tactics that got them through. We see it in Fall of Reach, from the opening they are killing thousands of Grunts while dodging really close fire from a formation of Banshees, all with no shielding.
If we consider the books, the early ones at least, we see a combo of Elites eschewing shielding in some instances (In the Ghosts of Onyx Voro Nar Mantakree ordered his elite to use additional shield gauntlets and they thought it dishonourable) and the shielding not being as good, surprisingly, as UNSC shielding - it could be overloaded quite quickly and I always thought it had week spots the Spartans were good at exploiting/hitting, the games just aren’t as nuanced as all that.
Furthermore I would say in most cases a Spartan is appreciably quicker than an Elite. Again considering the books we see a lot of Spartan kills are through non-conventional tactics - like when they delivered a nuke into a Covie ship and the resulting explosion wiped out 10,000 Covies, or the attack on the Unyielding Hierophant - just because we are ‘‘only’’ allowed to run and gun in game, doesn’t mean the Spartans in-universe have to.
Hm, well this issue wasn’t as fruitful I think as the first one for blue team much, characterwise. Feels like the sandwiched part I guess. But it does show how the spartan-IIs are the beginning were not these big heroes people looked at. And how the insurrectionists dropped it with the UNSC at times to fight the covenant
I was glad to see they made a distinguishable contrast between the effectiveness of Elite Ultra’s and the common minor, from their dialogue to how they resist damage. The latest media make it as if an Elite Zealot is the exact same in capability as an Elite minor - both in shield strength (A handful of sub-machine gun rounds) and combat speed (which is also hilariously lumbering).
I got all excited at the mission gear they got, or upgrades. “Armor abilites lol”. Im looking forward to seeing the blades that can be fired out at a target. I will be a bit disapointed it they only just quickly equip them in cqc, i want to see some flying knives!
Overall i really like the art style, and how john brings together the rebels to help them. I love the old themes of the covenant bringing together humans under one banner to fight together.
Why do the grunts look like they’re straight out of halo 4? This is supposed to be a year after the war starts

A lot of gear in halo 4 or things aren’t created post-war.

Yet the only time we first see or hear about it is halo 4 and after and somehow it shows up 31 years before halo 4
