Official Halo 3 Slayer Tips Thread

AKA How To Best Kill My Fellow Man/Alien Thread.

Here’s some basic tips from me. Criticism welcome!

  1. Always remember the first rule of combat. And that is, ALWAYS GET THE FIRST STRIKE! You get the jump on someone, you’ll have a major advantage. You won’t win every time of course, and this will matter less when you’re playing against an entity that is rather skilled. But barring that, a first strike can, a lot of the time, be the difference between you getting a kill and you being teabagged.

  2. In order to get that first strike as much as possible, you must first ALWAYS BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS! Be on the lookout and use that radar. From it, you can find out exactly where your opponent is just by glancing at it and plan your attacks accordingly.

  3. If you’re playing a Team Slayer game, remember to stick by your teammates as much as you can. Don’t think you can just lone wolf it and be a one-man army or you will be tasty meat for the ones who do know how to stick together.

  4. Don’t leave yourself out in the open. Take cover as much as you can while you’re moving or chances are, you will be flanked or backstabbed. Don’t let people get the jump on you.

  5. Get to know the maps as much as possible. Remember where all the weapons, vehicles, and equipment are. Take stock of what assets are available to you and form a battle plan around them, no matter how basic. Let’s say you have 2 Plasma Grenades, an AR, and a Shotgun. You can use the AR and Plasma Grenades like normal, but if someone starts getting close, you take out the shotgun. A simple plan but a plan nonetheless. Also, high ground (no, not the map) is usually desirable.

  6. Put away your Energy Sword/Gravity Hammer when you’re not using it. Walking around with it out is just asking to get shot from a long distance and get it taken from you.

  7. And finally, observe the people you’re playing with. While this isn’t that important at all really in comparison to my other tips, it sometimes helps to know if you’re playing with people who are together either by couch co-op or connected by a party.

There you go. 7 tips from me. Bungie would be proud. Now it’s your turn. Let’s hear 'em.
