I am 100% convinced there is some sort of algorithm in place that looks at your current active challenges and then lowers the chances of you being placed in game modes that allow you to progress. Or, if you need a certain weapon or type of weapon capable of fulfilling a certain requirement, you will be placed in a game mode or map that doesn’t have those items. Or, in the case of Fiesta, you will have less of a chance to spawn with the weapon type you need. Nothing will convince me otherwise at this point. I’ve just seen too many coincidences for it to not be true.
Keep it up 343. Find more ways to artificially increase your player count. Let’s see how this whole fiasco you’ve created ends.
It’s tempting to think in this way, that’s for sure. Although to my knowledge no one in the community has undergone an objective analysis of this, nor has anyone at 343 confirmed (or denied) this. So, we are left with a ton of anecdotal experiences. And with this particular issue no one is likely going to come forward and say, “Hey! I got all of the modes and weapons my challenges required!”
Instead, we only ever see the negative side of it, leaving us to believe that this is the case.
This is a long way of saying that this particular topic is prone to a bunch of different biases and until an objective analysis is done, or 343 confirmation, it’s anyone’s guess.
Personally, I will give them the benefit of the doubt on the matter. And I 100% still believe the challenge system needs a strong rework.
It has been categorically proven that this is the case. Without looking at the source code it’s hard to say as a fact, but based on the evidence the community has posted, it’s essentially the case.
If you can’t get your challenges done then it means you’ll play longer.
Ya know,
Given the frequency of the complaint, I think it just might be the case that it is… somewhat true.
I get there is an element of RNG,
But I don’t think it can account for just how LONG it takes people to get modes they need, even when actively abandoning games to try and rush to games they need.
such in the case of the TacOps event, where you somehow get a 8 game Streak of Mauler gamers, when you need a Sidekick game.
even when accounting for the fact that the chance of getting any single game type is 1/4. getting 1/4th 8 times in a row. Is an unbelievably low percentage, 1/65,536.
Like, even if you were just MISSING the game modes you need.
8 games in a Row comes out to just 10% chance that you won’t get the game mode you need.
Frankly, it would not surprise me if the Odds are being Fudged.
With all the misleading information we were given leading up to launch its not any kind of stretch of the imagination to think this was all a ploy to draw out play time.
You’d think it would be a very simple thing to prove.
But I imagine anyone who has bothered trying to collect the data has quickly noticed that it’s just random and given up.
Personally I recently nailed the Tac Ops stuff in about 20 games. Specific games I’ve needed popped up as expected.
I think one of the biases is that if one of your challenges is a bit delayed - you become conscious of it sitting there. You didn’t blink an eyelid at the ones which came and went in a game or two.
I’ve had some bad luck that was so bad it was hard to believe it was RNG. Regardless, it highlights why this system sucks so much. Progression shouldn’t be tied to RNG in the first place.
I’ve already suspected as much months ago, when we were just going into the second week of Infinite. After that, I’ve just promptly ignored all and any challenges that required me to play a specific mode, choosing to play how I please and pursue unlockables as I like.
If 343 doesn’t want me to get my unlocks in a fair amount of time, I’m A okay with not getting them. I’m not spending more time I don’t have on a game that doesn’t respect my time.
Collecting the data is boring.
To properly do it you’d need to document active challenges for each match you enter, then what game mode and map you get. Not to mention when it comes to weapons needed which spawn on maps, you’d need to scout the map for said weapon spawns as well.
On top of that, to get a reliable collection of data, I’d say 100 matches would be needed, as well as several weeks worth of challenges.
And no, just because it’s random, doesn’t mean it can’t be skewed into a specific direction.
People are more inclined to remember bad experiences.
Also, challenges which basically require only participation, such as getting multikills or spree aren’t as specific as Get kills with Weapon X, or, complete Y matches of game mode Z.
Killing players, getting back smacks, melee kills etc are doable in every match, and therefore do come and go easily. But even there I feel like I’ve encountered BS in the MM system. If I’ve needed a Killing Spree, it’s felt like the enemy skill has been turned up, and / or team mate skill toned down, so as to make it slightly more difficult to get the challenge done.
What you have to do is keep an eye on who reports what. The people who say there’s no issue, and they got the games they needed for challenges, invariably are nembers of the 343 Defence Force.
This started happening way back when halo reach was taken over from bungie with 343s title update.
Imo
Particularly the firefight challenges regarding get a certain amount of kills on map x
Wouldnt surprise me at all.
And tinfoil hat strapped on here, but im pretty sure a lot of dev they did with the current bots were started in og reach
Didn’t SEE a single hammer. Not on my team or the enemy’s until I killed myself out of curiosity to see if the game would spawn me with one when the enemy had 49 kills.
