ODST

Please bring back the good looking ODST armor sets. Not the halo 4 ODST that was lame. Also bring them back in the game too. It will be so awesome to fight next to some ODSTs

I miss the ODSTs as well, I’m open to seeing them and maybe some other Spartans throughout Installation 07.

Yes. Idk what ODST design that was for Halo 5. It doesn’t look like ODST armor. The nightfall looks okay but not the iconic look. I wish they carried Halo Reaches style over. ODST in campaign would be very awesome to play with. The games, halo 4 and 5, just made it feel very boring playing with marines (who don’t look good on theyre own).

I have a feeling we will be seeing a very Halo 3/Reach inspired design for the ODST armor this time around. With luck we will also get a whole armor set, and not just the upper half of one, and an actual ODST armor costing and visor color.

I’d love a good ODST armour set. Given the current art style, and 343i’s emphasis on returning armours, I can’t help but think we’ll be getting a good set based on the Reach and 3 sets.

You have more faith in 343 than I do. I highly doubt they’ll make our wishes come true. They make the game in their image and it sucks. All the Spartans look like power rangers. All the weapons, vehicles, armor and etc look brand new with no damage or wear and tear look. Hopefully they’ll pick up on the fact that most of us are disappointed in them so far and actually look into making halo like halo is supposed to be.

Halo Infinite? Are we seeing the same things? None of the armors showcased thus far have had the appearance of power rangers, so I’m just a little confused. The weapons look especially good. Of the vehicles, I cannot speak because we’ve only seen one.

I hope they ditch the vast majority of Spartan IVs and go with ODSTs instead. Spartan IVs are just so hard for me to get behind because there’s just no intrigue or conflict to their origin.
Spartan IIs were abducted as children and forced into the life, with over half dying in augmentation. Yes, it’s morally reprehensible but it’s interesting and makes you wonder if the ends justify the means.
Spartan IIIs are orphans whose anger was channeled by the government to make essentially kamikaze child soldiers. Again, morally corrupt but fascinating.
ODSTs are just normal people willing to put themselves through hell just for a chance to fight a significantly stronger enemy they’ll probably lose to. That’s a special kind of crazy.
Spartan IVs basically just got super soldier serum and bing-bang-boom they’re good to go. Boring and uninspired.

Yes, but we’re all talking about what’s coming in Infinite. Halo 5 is not an appropriate reference for Halo Infinite. We’ve seen armour in Infinite, where the next ODST armour will presumably be. And it won’t look like the Halo 4 or 5 designs.

It intrigues me when people differentiate the Spartan-IVs from the ODSTs. As if Spartan-IVs are grown in tubes and just pop out being Spartans.
When they’re ODSTs they’re praised, yet when they earn the ability to become Spartans, they’re regarded as simpletons who didn’t work for anything. Spartan-IVs got their “super soldier serum” from their exploits during the war. Being the next generation of super soldiers ensuring humanity’s survival after their near extinction doesn’t strike me as boring or uninspired. Is it as morally reprehensible as the first two generations? No, but I don’t think Spartans need to be tethered to ethical bankruptcy to be interesting, or purposeful.

Please yes

Maybe we’ll get an ODST campaign expansion? Would be nice.

If this were reality I’d agree. But in fiction, I’d like some stakes with my storytelling. And I don’t mean humanities stakes fighting the war. I mean personal stakes to earn the powers.

Halo 2 ODSTs > H3/Reach. I’m sad H2 odsts get no love

But that’s the thing, though. They have gone through high stakes to get where they are. They might not have had direct suffering when undergoing the augmentation procedures, but in order to be selected for such, they had to prove themselves beforehand.
That required fighting in a war where they were woefully outmatched, where they had to fight aliens whose weakest member looked them straight in the eye and could literally rip their limbs off.
The ODSTs, as you mentioned in your original comment, had to go through hell, and be a special kind of insane-in-the-membrane sort of individual. That earns them the pass to having an easy-going upgrade to Spartan since their ‘trial by fire’ occurred when they had it pretty darn rough as normal humans.

I still want to see ODST Troopers coming back in the upcoming Halo Infinite. It’s been a very long time since they appeared in a Halo video game.

Yes, but that just makes the selection process an extension of the ODST one which is why I find it unoriginal and ODSTs are still just human at the end. The reason I’m not so judgemental of ODST selection is because they’re not getting this massive jump in human evolution. They’re essentially going through a hellish selection process to have a higher chance of dying. Whereas IVs it basically boils down to, “You fight well, here’s a massive advantage at no additional cost!”

edit: Again, I realize in real life this would probably be closer to how it would go but we’re not talking real life, rather the plot structure of fictional storytelling.

But it makes sense. What other form of selection process would the Spartans use? It’s not so much unoriginal as it is effective, so logically it would be done in a similar fashion as the ODSTs.

I’m not sure how you can casually claim that fighting and surviving in the most grievous war humanity has ever known is somehow not worthy enough of becoming stronger. ‘You fight well’, when considering the context of the Human-Covenant war, is a pass in my book. I’m not sure why there needs to be even more hardship for them after what they already went through.

Honestly, the burden alone that all Spartans must shoulder is enough justification for “an easy pass” through the program. What is required of them is the exact same that Uncle Ben told Peter Parker.

Because by that logic literally every solider who fought in the war should be a Spartan IV. That inherently removes any, for lack of a better word, uniqueness to it. If everyone is qualified, no one is special.
