ODST was Underrated

People have stated that they didn’t like Halo 3: ODST for a number of reasons. Two of the comments that I heard that I disliked the most were, “I don’t like how you couldn’t jump as high.” and, “I don’t like how you were weaker.” You play as ODSTs, not Spartans, so of course you wouldn’t have the jump height or shields of a Spartan.

I found it fun to play as an ODST where you were able to see part of the war from another one of Halo’s rich character profiles. I also liked how the game had the whole detective theme going for it where the Rookie was looking for the rest of the team and all the while leading up to something larger.

Also, ODST had one of the hardest achievements in Halo history to date: Endure.

Personally, I’d like to see the Endure achievement make a comeback in a future Halo game. The hours spent working on a strategy and working as a team to fight wave after wave of Covenant as they came. I found the whole thing to be a great experience.

What are your opinions on Halo 3: ODST?

It was overhyped way too much, that was the biggest let down for people, they expected it to be as amazing as Halo 3 was.

> It was overhyped way too much, that was the biggest let down for people, they expected it to be as amazing as Halo 3 was.

It was (IMO) as good as Halo 3. It wasn’t a multiplayer game, it was an expansion. It just shows how blindly somebody will buy something because it says “Halo” on it. I hope people don’t do the same for Halo 4.

> It was overhyped way too much, that was the biggest let down for people, they expected it to be as amazing as Halo 3 was.

Maybe for you. I loved it. No need to spread your opinion as fact.

I thought it was good myself.I liked the new angle to an old fave. Not one of my friend’s have it,but I still play from time to time.Heck,if anyone want’s to team up on some vidmaster acheivements, let me know.

If they’d have kept it as Downloadable Content it would’ve probably gotten better reviews. For what it is though, it’s just a three hour game with the same re-hashed multiplayer and a £40/$60 price tag. You can kinda see why this game gets some stick.

The reason people were disappointed was because for the people who already had Halo 3 it was not enough for a full price game.

I disagree however, the campaign is the second best Halo campaign to date, FF was great, Reach’s version had absolutely nothing on it and the vidmasters were very fun and in some cases, challenging. I think it was definitely worth my money.

I loved it.

The campaign was short but very fun. Firefight was much better than in Reach and of course the soundtrack!. The soundtrack was absolutely awesome.

ODST should have been DLC. There’s no matchmaking, all the FF maps are just repurposed campaign levels, and you can beat campaign in three hours. It’s 1200 msp value at the cost of $60.

What irritates me is when ppl said it was only worth $20 bucks and Bungie ripped everyone off.

  1. Yes the game was overhyped but ppl completely ignored that Bungie originally stated EXACTLY what the game was going to be. (A ODST based Campaign w/ Halo 3 as it’s multiplayer)
  2. Realistically if you count the total value of ALL the Halo 3 DLC that ODST comes with, the game is actually perfectly priced if not a a good way to save a few bucks if you didn’t already have the DLC.

I mean I think the game had the 2nd best music of all and probably one of if not just about the BEST campaign. My freind who got started w/ Halo from the 1st game even thought ODST had the best story of all.

I actually enjoyed ODST. I just recently completed it on legendary and ive also got the harder achievements available on the game, and right now i just have some of the 200K achievements to earn.

I got lucky and was able to find this game (both discs) used at a game store in my town for under 20$, so i considered it a steal, thats for sure.

As for the game itself, i really liked playing it. I liked how there were different weapons, and a different setting as well. The way the campaign played out was pretty cool, and it was actually one of the first Halo games where i started using some of the covenant weapons (Carbine) quite a bit.

The music was awesome too, it reminded me of Bladerunner, which is one of my favorite movies, and the music always set the right tone that expressed what was going on at that moment during the game.

My favorite part of ODST was actually doing co-op firefight. The first time i teamed up with some guys in order to get the vidmasters, i had a great time. The battles were long and tense and it was one of the few times in a Halo game that i really felt teamwork was the ultimate goal to survive.

I personally think that ODST is more fun when you are playing co-op (campaign or firefight), but sometimes you have to play solo in order to take in the real beauty of the game.

I certainly hope to team up sometime, feel free to add me if you need a partner to tackle some of the 200K achievements

I was pretty hyped up about odst before it came out and when it came out i think it met my expectations it had a whole new campaign and the new game mode firefight thats pretty much what bungie promised isn’t it?

If people where expecting more they should have checked the title <mark>Halo 3</mark>: odst
as for the price it was pretty fair in my opinion the halo 3 maps where included plus look at prices nowadays skyrim: dawn guard is like $30-40 and thats an expansion pack too.

As for the game I liked odst every campaign mission had a unique an individual feel and style and the whole new mombasa overworld was alot of fun to explore with friends, full of easter eggs.

firefight was much better in odst than reach I don’t know why i just felt more team work orientated due to how weak each person was and without credits to worry about it wasn’t all about how many kills you could get it was about survival.

As the expansion pack that it was supposed to be, it was great. As the full $60 release that it eventually became, it was a rip-off. People were just expecting more from a game w/ a $60 price tag, but w/ it’s lack of an engine overhaul unlike every Halo game before it, lack of competitive multiplayer, lack of matchmaking for firefight, and having us repay for Halo 3’s maps that we had already bought, it had a lot of little things that tripped it up.

I personally thought it was one of the best co-op games ever though. Nothing beats running around Mombasa Streets w/ a friend flanking Covies together. Not to mention the highly-addicting new survival mode it introduced.

as a Halo 3 expansion: 9.5 out of 10
as a standalone $60 game: 7.5 out of 10

I admit, I was disappointed that it was based on H3 gameplay. Nonetheless, it made improvement to the AI (instead of just making them all damage sponges like in Reach. Jackal snipers got nerfed, Chieftains could use Invincibility better) and had a glitch of it’s own:

-Brute -Yoink!-, which was unfortunately suppressed. I plan on visiting this someday so I can always replicate it
-Super jumping Jackals, it’s more cute than super jumping Reach Grunts

The Brute plasma rifle, gold Hunter, hammer War Chieftains, grenade count of 3, silenced magnum, VISR, optional Scarab battle, supported Banshee with hover (did I forget to mention supported? In H3, the Banshee was non-supported. If you managed to get in one, you couldn’t do much with it without having a hard time. H2 gave plenty of air space. H3 was abundant with invisible barriers, which wasn’t a problem for the Hornet), and silenced SMG are plenty good reasons to buy this game. It’s different from H3, in a good way.

I haven’t repurchased yet but I’m considering it.

This.

As a standalone, it only has story to support it. Stealth should have been added to make things more convincing.

It more or less is a fact, the game was extremely overhyped because it had the word Halo in the title, just like Reach was.

I thought ODST was amazing so no need to attack me, heck I didn’t even state that was my opinion, just others.

Halo 3:ODST was probably my favourite Halo… so far.

> It was overhyped way too much, that was the biggest let down for people, <mark>they expected it to be as amazing as Halo 3 was</mark>.

And Halo 3 was amazing? lolno
I’d pick the ODST Campaign over the Halo 3 Campaign any day

I loved it, to be honest; it was nice to play as an average human. Plus, I think being more vunerable attracted players from other shooters where things such as personal energy shields were unheard of, like Battlefield.

ODST was my favorite Halo game of them all, and I honestly don’t see any future game beating it. It just had everything going for it; a perfect atmosphere, excellent characters (voiced by awesome actors as well), beautiful music, and a great, noir inspired, Blade Runner-esque city setting.

ODST isn’t just my favorite Halo game, its my favorite video game of all time.

Its great to see good feedback for it
