Who would win in an all out fight?
500 ODST or 500 Brutes
All various standard ground troops with various weapon ranging from a knife to a rocket
launcher, or bare hands to a fuel rod.
This is only halo 2 style.
Made a mistake. If its only Halo 2 style, then Brutes win hands down.

But only the last surviving Brute in Halo 2 goes berserk.
Only 2 Brutes berserk without that incentive in the entire game afaik (they’re encountered before the Tartarus fight).
Of course, there’s no doubt he’d take a huge chunk of ODSTs with him.

With how hard it is to hurt brutes in Halo 2, I think the brutes have a better chance. Not to mention the stupidity of marines/ODST’s in Halo 2.
EDIT: I change my mind again. Brutes still win, but barely.

Well, there’s a big difference between legendary and easy so I can’t vote. Legendary Marines absolutely kick booty, as long as they don’t have vehicles to drive. I had 16 Marine ground troupes fight their way all through the Outskirts tunnel on Legendary and they absolutely slaughtered the covies.
Brutes because they are pretty much bullet sponges.
Brutes can soak an immense amount of damage and keep fighting; ODST’s will be eating Brute Shot Artillery for days. If you allow at least 100 of them to handle Sniper Rifles from many yards away, then they might have a chance.
In an open field battle with no support for either side and standard weapons, Brutes will win.

There is a huge difference between Halo Wars brutes and Halo 2 brutes my friend. But your right about brutes winning.

This is the total amount of troops for each from Halo Wars( according to the video):
856=510 ODSTs vs 852= 170 Brutes!!!
Now if you maximize your army in total, which is 99, this is the result:
996= 594 ODSTs contrary to 992= 198 Brutes in total. There are not enough brutes to equal with humans in Halo Wars, but it does prove that brutes will win no matter what… which is why I love to h8t them
Now with any weapons, or where the setting is placed, depends.
However, the brutes from Halo 2 are going to be carrying: shotguns, plasma rifles (any variant), brute shots, carbines, plasma grenades, and I think fuel rod cannons whereas ODSTs will use any weapon given to them, Covenant or not. But that’s a problem in Halo Wars: they do not specify weapons (however they do represent shotguns and RPGs for the ODST and only the Brute Shot for the Brutes in audio and also by upgrades).
Yet, a match between the two without any weapons, Brutes will definitely win. They exchange ferocity and power over wisdom and self conscience, as this is debatable
It took a squad of ODST missing one man, lead by Nathan Filion to take on one brute. This is a silly poll, and you’re all silly people. 
A platoon of Halo 2 ODST’s vs a platoon of Halo 2 Brutes? It all depends on the terrain. Humans beat the Covy in ground fighting; Fields, valleys, open area/land, savannah, desert. But if it was in a city, forest, jungle, uneven terrain, etc. ODST’s would lose. If it was like the H2 AI vs each other the Brutes would win because of their Berserk Mode and they get better defensive armor and have higher ranks. The ODST AI is just as bad as a Marine so they wouldn’t shoot much and would mostly miss with the heavy weapons.
